Getting ready for summer camping. We upgraded to a ikamper 2.0 and retiring our gazelle t4. I finally installed the Baja dome light (Should have done it sooner!). I also pulled out the 3rd row seats. Now I have more space and a reason to built a new platform.

Did an oil change, lubed driveshafts and changed power steering fluid.

Oil change almost didn't happen as one of the M8 hex bolts attached to the door on the Bud Built skid was damaged from previous wheeling trip. There was another damaged M8 hex bolt near the oil drain door securingt the next Bud Built skid plate and I could not get it off. As a result, no direct access to the front driveshaft. I was able to get to the front spider and yoke form the side but not the rear spider. The little grease needle attachment for a grease gun is awesome.

I went with Bud Built aluminum skids - full set. I need to bend two sections back or am considering replacing the front two with their stainless steel version. I think @CharlieS did the same?

Any ideas on how to remove the stripped and damaged M8 hex bolt on the skid?

Maybe a dumb question, but can't you just reach over the side of the skid plate and attach the hose and drain the oil?

My skid plates don't have that oil pan inspection plate so I put an ez-valve with a 90, and then I just reach of the side of the skid plate attach hose and flip open the valve.

I installed Escape Gear seat covers on my 2nd row.

They fit really well, super happy with them! Then I did an oil change. Wow, what a PITA! I bought my truck recently and it came with ARB skid plates. Unfortunately, unlike the Bud Built or Slee plates they don't have any access opening for the oil filter canister. I also couldn't see how to just remove the front two sections of them, so I removed the entire 3 skid plate sections. If someone knows otherwise, I'm all ears! Those things are stupid heavy and a huge PITA to get back on by yourself!! I'd much prefer the Slee/Bud built skid plates, not only do they have an access panel but they also cover more than the ARB ones.

This rig has always been dealer serviced and only has 24k miles on it. Apparently the last dealer employed a gorilla because I had to use a 1/2" breaker bar to get the oil filter canister cap off. I was really worried that it was going to break, or was cross threaded. Luckily not, just was installed to 1000 ft lbs. Got it all done, pretty happy.

Had to clean up a ton more mud from my getting stuck in the ditch adventure, chipped it out with a flathead screwdriver. At this point everything is off, just a light dusting of dirt. To note, what I chipped off is what was left after I'd used a pressure washer for 30 minutes two separate times!

Hacked together a half bench with some wood laying around the workshop. Will sand and carpet this week. Have plans to add a 2nd section to fold over the 2nd row seat to sleep in the truck. Not perfect by any means, but better than nothing!

For me, the filter cap always comes off harder than it goes on for both my LC and Taco. These are the only vehicles I have ever used a torque wrench on for an oil change. If gorilla force is used on the cap it will likely leak because that dorks up the o-ring. I’ve switched to the metal housings and they don’t seem to stick as bad as the plastic ones.

I had the same challenge with both 200 series I've owned until I replaced my oil caps. They came off easily after that. Replacing the oring might've been enough, but the cap was cheap enough that I just went for it. The old one on my 16 had teeth marks on it as if someone tightened it wit a tool like water pump pliers...

The metal housing from the Tundra? It's just the cap and perforated tube? Part #'s?

Would love to be a fly on the wall for the discussion between engineers and bean counters regarding their inconsistent application of oil filter housing materials.

Toyota still has some sanity and is using metal pans on their transmissions and engines. Many manufacturers have bolted far too much plastic on their engines a la oil pans (with plastic drain plugs) and plastic water pump impellers! Absolutely silly decisions IMO. All plastic degrades with thermal cycling, heat, exposure to elements, and dries out.

The perforated tube already comes with the cap, but it's too short (since it's meant for the Venza part # 15620-31060). It's super easy to swap your tube over to the Venza cap. You just flatten out two tabs, then push-and-twist the tube to get it out. Then do that in reverse to get the tall tube inserted.

I’ve been busy these last few weeks gathering parts before heading cross country to Moab. I don’t have a lot of pics to share but the Mod list is definitely growing. Got a set of Slee skids installed along with WKO sliders. New Optima red top to re place my og battery from ‘13. Made a 12v water system out of a Jerry can. Cut up and old memory phone mattress to make the roofnest just that much better.

Added a few items for upcoming trips to Moab and Montana. Fridge and slide along with 2400 watt Bluetti power bank.

Custom paint.. courtesy of Home Depot parking lot. A kind of pastel O Sh*t green color. Some thoughtful person dumped some paint and saw no reason to notify anyone. HD filled out a claim in case of damage. Was a huge pain. Figured out I needed to let it dry before taking off so I didn’t customize the wheel wells . The wheel cleaned pretty good. Paint came off easier where I didn’t try to wipe it off. Tires will take some work. Should have done this on St Patricks Day.

This is the kind of thing that would fill me with a rage that might cause a stroke.

Maybe this will help you:

FWIW, a friend of mine's 5 year old decided to paint their minivan with paint they were using to paint there living room at the time. He thought he would have to go to a body/paint shop to get it fixed. I told him to open a beer and relax. Latex paint doesn't really stick to metal body panels. It even came off the black plastic pretty easy too.
