Ok, good luck hunting my friend. Finding one that fit my specs was SUPER TOUGH. Just make sure you are ready to pull the trigger when you find one. PPI, cash money available, etc... Keep looking you will find one.

Didn’t waste too much time! I’ve officially joined the club with this 2008, 135k miles, Great service history from Toyota. Brakes recently done, water pump, serpentine, radiator flush, good history of oil changes. I’ll still give it the once over and make sure its 100%.

Getting the bronze icon rebounds and 285/70r17 BFG ko2s mounted up as we speak! (or type) Will posts pics later, weather permitting. We’ve got some storms rolling into the NW Arkansas area.
Looking forward to seeing them in bronze. Be safe, we just had hella storms blow through Springfield (MO), crazy wind. More on the way later this afternoon.

Will do. I’m hoping to get ahold of a tough dog lift kit sometime in the near future if Trail-Taylor can get them in stock. Anybody in our region you would recommend for suspension work?

Got the factory 18” off today @ Toyota dealer and mounted the Toyota 20” that were shipped. Complimented the 20” with Toyo Open Country 275/55/20 117H. Results are good and new tires/rims are very proportional the size of SUV than factory ones:

Nice clean look. Well done. What front bumper is that? Looks like like it hangs lower and has more flashy trim compared to the normal bumper

Its part of a kit that I had shipped from overseas. Also comes with back bumper kit, just haven’t put it on yet

I got 4 lug nuts from the dealer and removed the wheel locks.

I just did the same. No more wheel locks as I had one fail, but fortunately it failed in my garage. Thanks @CharlieS for your generosity!

Also calibrated my 17 yr old torque wrench today. Surprisingly, was still spot on! Easiest thing to do with an $8 luggage scale.

I haven’t had any fail, but I remember not being able to find the key for the wheel locks on my old 4Runner. Also they are just an all around pain in the neck. I threw the key and wheel locks in with my recovery gear. I figure they will make decent spare lug nuts just in case.

Winch line extension.jpg

I made a 75’ Amsteel Blue synthetic winch extension. I spliced in a shackle on each end and finished both ends with locking stitches. I also put two four foot pieces of webbing in the winch extension so that the webbing can be placed at friction points where the line could be abraded. This set up works really well with the Safe-X-tract X-lock, which acts like kind of like a belly plate in climbing, but for vehicles. The minimum strength of the winch extension line is 17,600 lbs.

New Shoes! For anyone following from

My tire adventure continues. A price comparison for anyone reading, I got all 5 J**p Gladiator Rubicon 285/70/17 BFG AT factory take offs with less than 1k miles for $500 on a local club forum

He complimented my FJ45, and his neighbor even came over to see it

By the time I sell the rims, I don’t expect to be out of pocket much this round

Dismounting new J**p BFG AT 5 tires, old RW 5 tires, and remounting on the RW + balance and alignment took about 2 hours. Total cost was $189 from NTB

35x12.5R20s ordered. I blame this on you @tbisaacs !

Was wavering between Falkens and Toyos. It was not an easy decision but I ordered Toyo AT3s. It came down to a few things:
1) Price - Toyos were actually significantly cheaper, at least in 35x12.5r20 sizes. Was able to find them at a ~25% better price. Searching google shopping directly, led to even better price links at Walmart, that weren't available if searched at Walmart directly. Free ship.
2) Falken AT3Ws look like they're experiencing a supply chain issue with covid, and are getting an inline update of rubber compound (read cheaper compound). The previous ones were likely an incrementally better tire than the Toyo AT3s, as backed up by prof tire tester comments. After the change, AT3s are probably at the top of the AT tire competitive set.
3) I like to try different tires. AT3s have their work cutout for them as I truly enjoyed the Falken AT3Ws
