Thats a good looking rig. What do you use to mount the maxtrax?
Baja Racks makes an actual mount for the maxx trax, attaches to the side rails. It's a little loud for some peoples taste, but I'm not shy when it comes to my cars. Truthfully I've only used them once, if I get into a bad spot, I break out the winch.

Ive seen them used effectively at pismo, good to have even if used rarely, especially if you are on your own and without something else to anchor to for the winch

I ended up not using my 4x4 Labs triple jerry can mount and started from scratch. Dual can with propane tank. Better pics soon.

Replaced drivers side CV axle (leak, warranty replacement), cleaned/repacked front passenger side bearings (replaced/packed driver side bearings) with new OEM assembly hardware, drained and filled front/transfer/rear diffs (Mobil1 75/90 LS synthetic) and topped off coolant with a new radiator cap. Everything checked out perfect in all the other key areas, so good to go for my summer adventures.

Bit of advice here for those that routinely off-road and do water crossings: went to replace my driver's side CV and found that my bearing races were fused to the axle. I do LOTS of water crossings. There was plenty of grease in the bearings and it looked very good actually. It appears that the repeated splashing into cold water crossings with warm axles slowly fused the races (kind of like how cold water crossings and hot rotors can lead to warping)....that's my theory at least. I think I need to up my maintenance schedule from 30k for bearing check and repack to something more like 10k. Again, I do a lot of water crossings and really like to FLY on the gravel (smooth thanks to the ToughDog suspension setup).

Fixed my tire machine at work and mounted a matching tire as a spare, so i've got methods with 305/65/18s on main drive and stock 18's with the same tire. I haven't tried to stuff it back in the spare tire area but i'm not very convinced it'll fit, this thing is huge.

I can't fit a 295/75 16 under mine. Good luck

It’ll fit if you don’t have a traditional frame mounted trailer hitch.

Also if you run the LX oem hitch attachment through the bumper that bolts to the rear cossmember - then you’ll have to mind the length of the shackle recovery hitch because it passes through the receiver directly into the spare tire.

My wife runs a spare 285/65r20 BFG ko2 (34.5 BFG spec) under her LX

@sonk76 used to run a 295/70r18 Nitto (34.X”) under his LX. His tire was bigger than mine.
I think we both removed the spare tire support “hoop” above the rear axle.

You got skills. Make it fit! Then post a pic.

Old pic I dug up from the classifieds to give you an idea. Your spare will be about an inch or 2 lower because of that sweet 305 width.

Geane, how long did it take you to do bearings per side? Its up next for me, but trying to plan.

Replaced wheel bearing and found whoever replaced it last time forgot the thrust washer - no wonder it was shaking at highway speeds.
Where to find one at 9pm?? Stole off my FZJ80 (it might be a different part number but it works)
No shaking this morning!!

Clear coat repair last weekend.

Used a razor blade and compressed air to remove as much of the "white" clear coat that is no longer bonded with the paint. That was the most difficult part to blend. Tried light wet sanding but the original paint is much softer than the cleat coat.
The repair is far from perfect but provides protection and looks better than it did. The finish is a little dull but I hope to brighten it up with a little buffing.

Went out wheeling with a local group. Ended up sliding backwards in to a bunch of trees and badly denting and scratching the passenger side

Oooof - we could be twins - I did the same to my driver's side (slid backwards in to a stand of trees), albeit without sliders at the time....

Front wheel bearings, valve cover gasket — and roof rack delete!

what tires size and lift are you running? Your look like a twin of mine, except the shiny wheels and it looks taller too!
