What have you done to your 100 Series this week? (31 Viewers)

Did a couple things this week.

First, I did the @pfran LED upgrade with their kit to the 100-series. (Bought to many bulbs, though. Glad to have spares.) The lenses for the door lights are a PITA to get back on. There still one that's giving me trouble.

Second, I tried to re-wire the homelink system so it is only powered when the key was on. It didn't work for me. Open to any advice. The story is here:

Making homelink work only when key on

Next task will be adding bluetooth bridge to the stereo following the advice of this thread, though I won't be adding the inductive charger. Yet. On Monday, I register my rig with the DMV and I willbring the new-to-me-rig to a local mechanic to see (1) if he's can do some basic maintenance on my rig, and (2) to see what he costs. There's a shop in Monrovia (about 65 LA miles away) I'd like to use, but I'll investigate them later.

Spent Saturday cruising around the forest and logging roads in SE Oklahoma.

I installed 1.5" Spidertrax spacers that I ordered from Slee. It sits so much prettier now!

You can also see how far inboard the front wheels were sitting after the lift.

I never thought the the narrow stance would bother me, but I look at it every time.....I am a bit concerned about the spacer through off the steering axis (scrub radius?) and affecting handling negatively.

Drove up to Norris Dam for a picnic and hit a lil trail.

Nothing to it directly because it isn't mine yet. But, I did buy a plane ticket and a temp transport tag so I can go pick it up. Does that count?

I picked it up today. That has got to count. :flipoff2:

Two weeks in since purchase... punch listing.... hood struts today... still trying to figure out sunroof... ordered wheel wrap today of amazon... I’ll give it a try this coming weekend

Alright! PSA: The air filter cabin kit sold by Cruiserparts.net comes with a single air filter (that’s what they told me), not two, which is what our LCs need.

With that out of the way, I installed the air cabin kit so that I can have filtered air, although until the pair of filters I ordered from amazon arrives, I’m running with a single filter. Still, my air no longer has a funky smell. Why did it have a funky smell, you ask? Look what was in there:

It was damp, too, and went all the way to the back of the cavity. I used a lint trap brush and a shop vac to get it all out.

Not as bad as some of the pictures I’ve seen.

Removal of the current cover was a bit more involved than the TLCFAQ web site post described. One thing I did not see mentioned, for example was the rubber gasket at the bottom of the old cover. I was able to remove it and use it on the new cover.

The procedure is documented here:
Cabin Air Filter Install / Retrofit

Parts needed for the retro-fit are:
It is a straight swap of the old cover with the new one. Getting the old cover out was tricky because the space is pretty tight, and you are working at a weird angle under / behind the glove box.

I almost forgot! Here is what it looked like after some initial cleaning:

You can see where the leaves and crap were, all the way to the back of the cavity.

I also lubed the sunroof tracks, and any hinges up there, and the sunroof is back to gliding as smooth as silk.

I was planning to do the heater hoses and Ts, but when I opened the box from camelback Toyota, there were only five hoses, even though I ordered all six.

How do you get to this filter?

It’s behind the glove box. If you have a Lexus, or are one of the few lucky LC owners that have the cabin filter already, there is a little door you remove to replace the filters. If you are not one of the lucky ones like me, the procedure is documented here:

Note: the cavity that holds the air filters will be empty, and you will likely find a bunch of leaves and other crap in there like I did. If your AC stinks, this is probably why.

Toyota also sells an AC refresher kit which is basically a foam you spray in through the drain tube (step 1), followed by another spray through the intake vent (step 2). Looks like something you can do yourself. My local dealer quoted me $137 to do it. The kit costs $31.37.

So far mine feels more stable. I haven't noticed any rubbing, but I haven't been offroad yet.

Yesterday I made my first attempt at some paint correction on my newly purchased 100. I took the flares off over the weekend and found some pretty significant rub marks. So far after using only compound the marks are better but still very noticeable. I've been doing some research but obviously hesitant to go too crazy. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. There are a couple of areas I'm considering trying to touch up myself on the driver side rear panel image(5) based on the results of some practice surfaces.

I've been using a similar kit from BG for a few years on my 80 kills the smell and does a good job of cleaning out the condenser of dirt and mildew large items like the leaves in your pic still need to be removed prior to the clean otherwise the get wet and become a mess. But I would recommend that kit.

Thanks! Got link to the kit?

I actually just dropped off my LC at a local dealership. This is a different one that I spoke to yesterday (who said they had the spray kit). This other dealership stated they don't do the spray kit any more but instead hook a machine up ($150). I'm going to have them do it just so my AC cleanliness is starting from a good point. After that I will use the kit myself, in the future.

BIG changes on the LX! Replaced the AHC with a ToughDog suspension (53mm fronts, 45mm adjustable rears, dual-rate heavy coils, Nitrogear UCAs and TD TBs). The front shocks are MASSIVE! Like HUGE! The coils are very long...had to drop the axle waaaaay down to get them in. Comparing the TBs is hysterical....the LX are so small compared to the ToughDogs. The rear springs are even more hilarious to compare. The LX springs are not even in the same ballpark. I thought people exaggerated how small they were when comparing to non-AHC springs. They weren't. If anything, they probably understated the difference. Thanks to @DirtDawg and Jason at Trail Tailor for all their advice and recommendations. Here's all the old stuff ripped out. Drivers side rear came out ok. Passenger side required a sawzall and 2 blades (complete locked on). Everything else went smooth....
