Oil Change

Just your typical DIY oil-change, made more fun by the knucklehead at the dealership who decides to be helpful and install the oil filter with an impact wrench [or similar].) :censor:

For tech content: yes, driving a screwdriver straight through the side to twist the filter off worked -- even thought access was a pain with my armor.

(I normally do all my own oil changes, they just happened to do it as part of the 90k service at the Lexus dealership--and this was my first oil change since.)

Repainted my scratched wheels. Gotta love rattle can. Bumpers, sliders and skids are next.

Much better than taping, wish the rest was that easy.

nice, i love how u did the maskingg,

I plan on masking my side molding in a similar fashion, so much easier than taping really close, and you can still put the painters' tape and plastic sheeting on the cards for masking larger areas.

This weekend, I thought the rear of my center console was toast including the cup holders. I was able to disassemble it completely, clean it thoroughly and managed to get it all solidified into one working mechanism with some new screws and finesse. Was almost going to pay a few hundred for a used unit, but this could not have worked out better. I spent $0 and only my time :D

Trying to find time to get everything installed/maintenance performed and ready to go to Ouray!!

13 days and counting!!!

Changed an 02 sensor. Check engine light has been on for almost a year, and the replacement sensor had been sitting on my dresser fro 6 months. It took me 30 minutes to change it. And that was basically one handed since my skid plate was in the way! It's always the simple stuff that takes the longest! I also finally unplugged my ASC computer...no more blinky lights! Still need to find a good route for the CB antenna cable. A cheap and quick way to mount the fridge for Ouray. MAybe change the oil before the trip too!

Mr. Bubbles - at 235,000 - received new starter contacts and plunger.

Don't believe the parts guy when he says they never replace the plunger. Added three days to the project waiting for that lil' item...

Since we had to wait on the plunger, also replaced the O-rings, gaskets, and insulators for all eight of them injectors.

Got to enjoy some quality time with my daughter - home for the summer from TCU - while she did an excellent job assisting and encouraging.

Well I finally managed to do some work on the cruiser today in preparation for the road trip to Italy.

I managed to get the AC tested and as i thought it has a number of leaks in the line going to the rear so out it came in bits and pieces and i will post the two ends off to get a single flex line made up.

Thanks to Marius who gave me the idea for installing a fridge as the center console.

The fridge is a Waeco CDF-11 for those that are interested.

After stripping out the center console you left with this

Then removing the base plate and a few other small bits you end up with this.

A bit of 10mm ply, some contact and some rubber mat and i ended up with a base plate

The base plate bolt into place like this

Prior to bolting it in i thought i would show you how it fits the fridge and the strap to hold it in place.

For the mean time its just plugged into one of the cig lighter sockets until i work out how best to power it long term off an aux battery.

It does have an auto cut out if it senses your battery is low and they are pre set too either 10.1 or 11.4 or 11.8 and then it auto starts once it senses a charge.

I let it run with the car idling for 45min set to -18 with an ambient of 28 and the water i put inside was ice cold and much longer would have froze.

Im very happy and will report back after the trip on how it behaved.
