Prepped the rear for the new Slee rear bumper that's scheduled to arrive this week:

Looked up service history at lexus.com...prior owner kept all service up to date...did find out he hit something early on and had bumper ,headlights and radiator replaced...

Changed all fluids on my new (to me) 98 LX. It was a 1 owner vehicle with extensive dealer records and most fluids came out clear but I needed to be sure. The heater tees both broke in my hands. Glad I had spares on hand.

Too bad the tranny pan drain was stripped and I got to redrill and tap that. Other than that it was a piece of cake.

Fabricated a mount to attach the large quick fist for my co2 tank to my Gamiviti rack.

I found this piece of plate just laying around in my scrap pile and it worked out perfectly.

What's the clearance at the rear? Looks to be 5-6".

Is there a plan to add a lip on the front to keep stuff from flying forward in a collision?

4.75" max average 4" numbers are almost exactly the same as an 80. I have had a rack in my 80 for a few years and it has been full for the most part since day one. I dont put anything up that has a weight of over ~2lbs and I would recommend the same to others without a safety strap.

A lip will limit one access from the second row. Something I find very useful. Would people want a lip limiting access?

Finalized the prototype attic rack.
Shown rack fits late model 100 series

I like:) I think you got a great idea with this and a much cleaner mounting method. I built mine and it has been excellent so far - but like any project it's just a prototype and there would be a few things I would change and a few points I would like to stress. Please take this as constructive advice, Phil, since I have been down the same road!

  1. If you plan to hang anything below it using any type of mounting method (quickfist clamp, bolt on, etc...) spend a lot of time dispersing the weight evenly across the entire rack. Otherwise you will experience rattles. I changed things around a bit after realizing it, I just want you or anyone else to do it before and save some time!
  2. Phil is right about not putting anything above or below without a safety strap. I throw wet towels and clothes up there after getting off the lake and that works perfectly. But like you said anything more than ~2lbs and you WILL and SHOULD include a safety strap
  3. If you plan to do something similar to me and mount many things underneath it (I have an axe, bow saw, a snatch strap & tree saver, fire extinguisher, etc...) then you should include a barrier. Imagine the axe coming loose in a car wreck and going forward.....I would definitely making this an option for people plus it also doubles as a pet barrier!
  4. On the thought of a barrier, if you plan on it resting vertically against the 2nd row headrests like I do (so it won't swing back and forth) you need something to go between the rack and headrest. Otherwise the rack will begin to rub against the headrests and leave undesirable marks
  5. USE QUALITY HARDWARE!! I know you are religious about this Phil but I cannot stress this enough. Mainly to those who purchase it if you put it into production. With added weight, bouncing around on trails, and just every day use of it you DO NOT want this thing or anything attached to it to coming loose. I'm sure you're already 10 steps ahead of me with this but I just thought it'd be something worth mentioning
Great job fabricating it and I hope you can get it into production and continue catering to the Land Cruiser community!
