I don't know if this is the case here, but I have seen wires discolored like that from the (what I assume is asphalt-based) OEM sound proofing that is applied to the floors of our Cruisers. Being tucked under the carpet where there wouldn't be any heat sources that are hot enough to burn the wires, this makes sense. Also, I really don't think that an over-current situation would make marks - especially not in erratic spots like that.

I’ve got tons of use out of this thing- good add to the recovery gear pile and worth the little money. It’s pulled me and buddies out a few times, and for stuff where you just need a little help it’s great.

For a few years now my cruise control hasn’t worked with the headlights on. Finally tracked it down to the garbage LED reflector conversions I installed at the same time. Glad I kept the originals, cruise works again!

Update on this. In low light, the windows still don't match. When the sun is on them it's about as close as I've seen. Oh well.

Truck looks great. I got excited for one second and thought "man, someone did the tint without it looking crazy, what did they do???!!!?!" but then realized you've got a 2000 LX vs my 99.
One of these days I'll probably put some near-clear ceramic on all of it to help with the greenhouse stuff, but that mirrored tint from the B-pillar back is a problem.
What's different about the 99s vs the 00s when it comes to the windows/tint?
The tint is fantastic! And even with temps in the high 90's she cools down quick and stays comfortable.
I had tried to order glass from Toyota but couldn't get it delivered. He called his Toyota and Lexus contacts looking for it but they were unable to track it down as well. Ultimately went with bronzed glass from an OEM distributor, can't recall the brand, but I'm loving the view through a fresh windscreen. He took care of everything and gave me wholesale prices on all materials.
I will say this though, he was unable to get the rearview mirror to mount tight due to the poor design of the puck. I'm going to pull it apart myself and see what I can do to stiffen it up (likely bend the tab a little more like everyone else) but this is of little concern to me. The rearview has never been truly solid in the 5+ years I've had the truck.
It's cheap (relatively speaking, of course) and available to just replace that weird little metal spacer, 87825-60010. Just put another one in myself a few days ago to take some slack out.
For sure! Problem here is that's exactly what I did. The OEM puck ships with the metal tab perfectly flat, the old one he took out had the bend so that's what sent him down the forum rabbithole to try and figure out what was going on with it.
I guess I failed to mention in my OP, I took the chance to order all of the trim, moldings, rivets, etc. from Toyota before the job so that all new pieces would be going in. Ernesto was happy to see that I had everything he needed to do the job. The hard to swallow part is that while the glass itself was $480, all the surrounding bits to get it mounted properly ran me close to $700 after online discounts. So ~$1200 all in to replace the windshield.
Making some good progress on my 1998 UZJ100. We purchased this to part-out or hand it off to a youngster at Cruiser Outfitters to make their own. While it only has 155k miles, it had a haaaaaaarrrrd life in the recent years. It spent a handful of years as a mobility training platform for soldiers needing to spend time in 4x4’s and remote places. They would live out of it for a week at a time doing training desert, dunes, rocks, spotting, field expedient repair, navigation, etc. I’ve done a handful of trips with them over the years, super fun stuff. This one retired out of their program because they ripped an upper control arm mount right off of the rear axle housing. Previous to its use in training, it lived on the east coast and the undercarriage is crusty as one would expect. But, I’ve seen much worse on the road and trails so we decided to give it a freshen up instead of parting it out.
We added a factory e-locked rear axle with computer/harness from our friends at Japanese Auto Wrecking (Finn and Steve are great). We did a AISIN timing belt, hoses, AC condensor, radiator, thermostat and associated bits. It runs like a top and the interior is surprisingly clean.
This last weeks project. 2x6" against the room and a porta-power case on the tailgate. Any guess what we were up to?

Added 20’ limited tundra wheels. Had to cut the center out of the rim cap. Hits cap. Had 18’ SR5 rims before. Ride is very smooth.
I think in 2000 they went away from the mirror tint that was the thing for 98-99. I think that's the year. What you wind up with, on 98-99 LXs, then, is this weird situation where the mirrored tint is integral to the glass, and if you put on some 35% or whatever over it, then you have a dark gray/ black front window, and the same tint from the B-pillar back looks weird because it's the same dark tint with mirror over top of it, so it basically just doesn't match or look right.
Super minor thing, but kind of annoying.
I finally got my FN wheels on (still haven't finished the A pillar repair, and photos suck because it was like 10:30 last night)
