Today I bought my first 100 series. 1999 w/rear locker. Nice to be back in a LC since selling my 80.

Hey I just got my 100 yesterday, coming out of a 80 it feels pretty good especially for vacation trips among other things

@timer00, nice *new* avatar

@TheForger, did you homebrew the brackets? I was hoping there might be an prefab option out there but doesn't look too intense

Welcome to the ex 80 guys. Congrats! My 80 was great, but I love the power of the V8!

I replaced my front locker line with rubber instead of plastic, due to leaky fittings where the plastic tubing meets either rubber or solenoid. I also replaced the TJM solenoid that got trashed when the compressor fell off the jack stand while doing the repairs on my winch cradle and frame captured nut. I tied all of the wiring and tubing up out of the way, like it was before the bumper had to come off. Tested everything and I am ready to go wheeling with a friend this afternoon.

I also finished up the Hawse fair lead install ( for now.) the Ironman bumper has a recessed pocket for the roller fairlead that is no good for Hawse style fairleads. They don't stick out enough and will ruin the synthetic rope over time from side pulls. I had to ditch the nice new Slee Hawse fairlead that I got and pickup a Warn cast one that was twice as thick as the Slee. I also picked up a Delrin one that is even thicker than the Warn one and I want to run either the Slee on top of the Delrin or if needed the Warn on top of the Delrin one. The only problem is that the Delrin one has the same bolt pattern but is wider than the Warn, Slee and a standard roller fairlead so it won't fit into the pocket in the bumper. Since I am going out wheeling today, I used the Warn and hopefully I won't need to use it until I can find a way for a clean neat cut off of each end of the Delrin fairlead.

@ElHefe the brackets were a pretty simple homebrew. The DS bracket is just a piece of 3/16" iron angle painted black - no welding necessary. The PS is a piece of cut 3/16" iron angle welded to 2 iron bars. Very simple and I chose iron over steel because it is easier to bend to your liking with a little added heat.

Thanks for the welcome! We really enjoy the 100 so far, and my wife likes that she doesnt have to "climb" in it...for now anyway. :) Here is a pic of my 80 before we sold it.

Painted bumpers and side moldings Natural White. My wife liked them silver/gray, but they were a mess of cracked and peeling paint.

Added Slee 30mm rear spring spacers for an inch of lift. (Surprised/pleased when Christo called to fill the $50 order the day I sent the email)...thanks Christo!

Had the torsion bars indexed up 30mm and the front-end aligned with the addition of Toyo Open Country AT IIs in 285/75R16.

Sorry for the crappy pics. Headed to Breckenridge at 0400 and will post some Colorado mountain pics!

Starting to look like an LX.

That's not nice.

My LX looks nothing like that and is factory two tone paint scheme, not mono color.

:)

White Cruisers have been shown to have more horsepower, torque, wheel travel, and sex-appeal.

Now ya tell me, thankfully I chose wisely

Hmmmm, I like this too, and the white for sure. White is also great for not showing GA pin stripping. I don't care for the gray two tone though, thinking of painting it while the rear bumper is off. Front bumper can be taken off too, only worried about how to do the moldings. Garth, did you just tape them off and do it? Did you clear coat them too? Rattle can? Thanks.

I briefly thought of doing them black with plastidip like the wheels........IDK, im torn now.

Had a steering rack and lower a arm done at the dealer. I do trust them more than most local options here. But they filled the power steering with power steering fluid.... I know they're pretty close, but if it calls for ATF why wouldn't they just do that!! Taking it back in. Hope they flush it right and not just add a little ATF to make it red...
They get uppity if I try to do work like this in the parking lot at the apt complex:(

Did you have the rack replaced?
New or remanufactured?
Cost?

I'll find out if it was new or reman. I'm driving around in the service managers Prius doing errands while they flush the system. Do you want parts costs or out the door cost for all?

Sold mine :(

It's been fun guys. Great forum. I'll be posting in the 95+ section about a 3rd gen 4runner I picked up as a beater for a while. In the meantime I'll also be looking for a 200 series.

Whatever you've got. Parts vs. labor would be good. I've seen a broad range of prices stated on the forum.
Trying to get my head around the probability of 100 series steering rack failure. Coincidentally, my buddy's steering rack in his Tundra died last weekend while we were putting around the desert.
