Been in self isolation since March 14th. Haven’t left the house since then other than 1 grocery run and 1 run to pick up an absurd amount of Pinthouse Pizza Electric Jellyfish. Got super stir crazy and decided to roam out towards Llano/Mason and run some gravel. The recent rains made this a fun and exceptionally muddy affair. No fewer than 30 water crossings and mud splashes with several long runs thru mud along the way. Places that were bone dry a few weeks ago now have lots of water. All of the gravel roads were wet. Stopped by my little plot of land out there and took care of a few little issues. Nice to be able to sit in some wide open space and knock back a few cold ones. Social distancing at its finest.

Did the steel wool and meguire’s ultra black treatment to my belt moulding on the passenger side. Placing a parts order and thought I’d try this before biting the bullet for new bits at $130ish per side....pleased enough that I’ll just reorder what’s broken (the front edge trim on the rear quarter windows is cracked on both sides) and probably new seals, which probably should just be down when the windows are out....

I've recently started on a few mods on my recently acquired stock 100... Lots of big plans and lofty goals for the future as well.
I've been thinking about creating a Build Thread. Can someone tell me how to label a new thread as a "build"? Maybe I'm blind but I've been snooping around and I can't seem to find the right button.

Thanks!

Just for fun, I'm including a pic of my current Cruiser stable which is also the scene of the above mentioned knuckle-busting.

Keep rolling...

I’ve been noticing how rough the idle at stop lights, signs, etc... is - after doing some research found that rough idle in drive is sort of a thing with these beasts. Decided I would do several things to try and smooth it out:
-Clean MAF
-Clean air intake
-Check ignition coils
-Check/replace spark plugs
-Clean battery terminals/disconnect for 20m+

Ended up doing all of those things. Amazing idle now. Even my wife, who sort of grudgingly admits “the monster” is a pretty rad car, mentioned that she noticed it was idling smoothly. We cranked some music up for the girls - just a little bit - and I couldn’t even tell that the engine was running. Really amazing difference.

I’ve never done any of that work before. Well, I guess I’ve changed spark plugs before. But really appreciated all of the guides on how to do these things - I guess the MAF cleaner was pretty easy to follow the directions on the can, but its good to have the collective wisdom of ih8mud there anyways.

Also changed the with another round of high mileage synthetic Mobil1 and greased the all the zerks down below.

Posting some pics of the spark plugs that I pulled and the coils after I wiped them down. My initial assessment of the coils was that they looked like they were in good shape. All of the rubber boots were flexible, no cracks or deformations. Curious if any of you see something I missed.

With the plugs, I really couldn’t tell if they needed replacement or not. I don’t have a lot of experience. New plugs were a little pricy but not as much as eight new coils. Some looked dirty (Left #1 had oil all over the threads - probably loose?) but none looked really thrashed. I replaced them anyways, tightened them down (most had seemed a little loose), put it all back together.

Finally had some time to work on things this week. Did the pre-03 nav delete (thanks to all who contributed to that thread!), pulled the DVD drive and jumpered the LF speaker wires, pulled the center console CD changer, 3D printed a pocket to fill the void left by the CD changer, and pulled the factory rack. Next up: removing the running boards which I've managed to crunch more than a few times, installing new front speakers, then building a new rack.

Do you have an STL for the pocket you made - that you would share?

Installed massive metal shop center counsel safe. Lined it with felt to make it quieter and added magnets to hold pistol and mag. Also installed an LED light inside because why the hell not.

Also took advantage of ironman4x4 sale and replaced the OME suspension with the pro foams and heavier springs. Need to fix that bunching of boot cover lol

Where’d you get the ram mount that’s stealthy.

Your eyes don't deceive you. I lived in Darwin for 3 months back in 1995. Kinda did a walkabout of my own after retiring from soccer at a young age. When I bought my LX 4 years ago, there was a guy selling the NT plates on the Classifieds here. I bought one just for the nostalgia. Would LOVE to go back. One of my bucket list items is to drive the entire Canning Stock Route.

Nice! Most of the wells are dry now, or contaminated. Thought you'd like to know your plate is registered to a Kia Sportage lol. Nice rig!

That is hysterical! A Kia Sportage? The shame :0 Too bad about the wells. I really want to try and go back there in the next 2-3 years.

Did some surgery on my Gamiviti roof rack. Cut out a crossbar and some of the mesh and added some square tubes to flush mount the solar panel. There was the perfect amount of spacing between the cross bars to fit a 100W panel with 1/2" to spare. The panel sits about 3/16" below the plane of the rack so I can still use it to pick up metal, plywood, whatever. Happy with the outcome!

Repaired busted seam in front seat. A small tear was repaired about a year ago with fish hook and fishing line (not recommended technique). Once this failed about 2 weeks ago the seam unraveled further.

Name brand needles hoping they would be stronger than no name.
These break if you try bending them to change the curve.

Use the large needle to slightly stretch the existing hole in the leather if it is too small. The needle will find the hole more easily especially when
coming up from underneath.
Start with a length of thread (waxed leather stitching material) 3-4 times the length of the repair.

Not especially pretty but for a couple hours work while quarantined and less than $15 in materials it will do the job.
Recently torn section and previously repaired section did not stitch consistently.
