Working my way through the parts pile, taking a break from the door cards (while I wait on more door parts)
Installed driver side Rosen visor to cure my droopy OE, leaving the stock passenger visor cause it works fine

Also added a JDM style shift lock override button courtesy DeltaVs, complete with cool Japanese instructional sticker

Took a little cruise up to Maudlow to rattle test the Orikawa door cards, really pleased how these turned out. Sound deadening in the doors makes noticeable difference too.

Speaker upgrade, budget friendly kicker 6.5” front and rear, no Mark Levinson but sounds pretty good.

Yep, the 1 ton version Toyota should have offered!

New thermostat, water outlet gasket, temp send unit, cold start injector timer, housing bolts, and bypass hose. I figure if I've got the damn thing apart I should try to replace as much of the old bits as possible, right?

I flushed it twice last week and everything was coming out very clean. Now I need to trusty my work that it won't spray everywhere and fill it back up with coolant.

In my most recent post I celebrated completion of rebuilding a chunk of the cooling system in my '62. In today's post I will chastise myself for leaving the truck in drive prior to starting it up immediately after finishing the aforementioned work and having it creep forward into a tool cart and bend the headlight assembly, crack the grille, and puncture the AC condenser.

I don't mind spending money to fix my old truck but it sure sucks when that money gets diverted to fixing stupid mistakes instead of proper restorative purposes! But I was able to secure a headlight assembly, headlight trim, and AC condenser that are coming in the mail. Here's to hoping the condenser (used from an '88) is in working condition. I'm trying to see the bright side of this and I guess it will give me access to replace the completely rotted foam in between the radiator and radiator support. Any other recommendations I should consider while I've got nearly the whole front end popped off. Wish me luck in getting the portion of the radiator support that the headlight assy attaches to straightened out.

Bummer! It’s been about 5 years since I sold my last FJ62, aren’t they supposed to have a neutral safety switch to prevent that from happening?

You're the second person who's mentioned that to me and I didn't know the answer to it, @AirheadNut. Now it piqued my curiosity though, and yes, these models do have a Neutral Safety Switch. Mine is either missing, bypassed, or simply not working. Page ST-2 of the FSM indicates one of the possible issues under "Engine won't crank" as "neutral start switch faulty" which would lead me to believe that it my case it's either completely missing or possibly bypassed. The diagrams that follow don't indicate where the physical part is but I'm going to add it to my list of things to investigate.

I'm only the second owner, I haven't messed with this, and the previous owner did everything by the books and pretty much only had it serviced at dealerships so I'll need to do more digging. It sure would have been nice if my momentary lapse of reason hadn't lead to a few hundred dollars in damage.

If I remember correctly the NSS should be located in the shifter assembly on the floor, so it ought to be fairly easy to test. It certainly sounds like it may have been bypassed, usually it seems like they have the opposite failure symptoms: won't crank at all.

Since I've owned my LX470 I have hated the cupholders between the front seats. How could Toyota get some many things right and then have this terrible, horrible, no good, very bad cupholder design? It's Chrysler tier.

Well it turns out that the previous owner removed a part. A part that set me back $8.49 to replace. What. A. Huge. Difference.

If your 100-series is missing this part, you need to buy it. Right now. Stop what you're doing and buy it. Did you do it? Good job! You're going to like this.

Haha yep that thing works surprisingly well.

Pretty sweet that a quart size Nalgene bottle fits in the cup holder with the widget removed too.

funny how something so minor makes a world of difference

Spent a minute talking steering stabilizers with @1989FJ and @4gotalot at the club meeting Tuesday. Thanks to those dudes and Cruiser Outfitters I slapped on a new dampener this afternoon. Notable improvement
