Well I couldn’t wait anymore and had a break in the weather at lunch today. So I rolled it outside and popped the cover finally.

Found it.

Picked up my new to me diff from Jason today. Promising little writing on it as well.

Did the bolts sheer off? or back out? thats sketchy. bet you found lots of metal in there.

They backed off best I can tell. I pulled the cover, found problem, saw bolts laying in the bottom, took pictures, put cover back on with a few nuts and put it back in the garage. I’ll tear it apart and swap the diff hopefully in the next couple days and get more pictures.

I guess sombody didnt torque them down or somthing. Looks like sombody was in there with the red RTV. I think if mine went (who knows) I want to put a full float in. But then I am pretty sure I will have to regear the front diff. I have done no research on it yet.

Like this thread a lot !!!!

Got back to the shop about 9, cleaned, cleaned gasket surface, cleaned some more. Started re assembling, power went out, got it all back together using flashlights, built a new line to the driver side as this one cracked when I moved it. Hooked up my oem rear lights. Welded the driver front spring perch to the frame as it was cracked at the rivet and moving.

Had high hopes of building my tire carrier tonight, but time just does not allow.

Heading home to go to clean up and go to bed.

Thankful to have a full shop to be able to do this project.

At least the power outage made cool pics.

That’s one clean windshield wiper motor !!!

Drove the 40 off and on all week, rain was in the forecast for the weekend and we had family stuff so it stayed at the shop.
I had the trailer hooked up over the weekend to haul a mower and figured I’d just bring the 40 home instead of shuttling over. Drove it to lunch today then loaded it up before the trip home.

Day 3 of driving 40 this week. It’s almost time to fill it back up with fuel, which means I’ve burned about 3/4 of a tank of fuel since I got it going.

Ran across a buy on a 2F I’m thinking of picking up.

I don’t “need” it as my engine runs strong. It just has some minor oil Leaks and pretty sure it needs valve seals. I always said I would LS swap if I engine swapped but it rubs and drives like it should now and I don’t know if I want to deal with a swapped rig later down the road finding parts and etc.

If I can get a complete suppsed to have been rebuilt 2f for under a grand locally is it worth it?

What I’ve been reading is the early f motors are basically bullet proof, minus sub par oiling. The main issue is pets availability.

The question that I’d be asking myself is whether I like 100 hp or 300 hp for the same or better fuel mileage🤔
