What did you work on tonight?

Nice to see metal timing chains instead of a polymer belt. Red links too!

My polymer OEM belt on the 4.7 has hit 200k+ so it's time to change it out again. Still, nothing like a timing chain though.

"a thousand lashes for you for not doing this earlier :flipoff2:"

Fun thing happened to me tonight. I had done some carb adjustments for the altitude change (from NM to Oregon) and everything seemed ok until today, had this loud rod knock esque sound and the engine won't turn over. Not sure what to diagnose this as, or how catastrophic it would be to fix. It hadn't been happening before. I'm wondering if the entire engine is toast.
Not a great night for me, away from everyone who could help.

Is the rear main seal still leaking?

To get engine advice from this group you will need to post info on your engine: Detailed descriptions, videos, and photos of what you perceive as problems. This would be a great learning experience for everyone. The group doesn't benefit from you sending us PMs.

Rod knock and engine seizing comes from oil starvation and/or parts failure. What happened?

well put, I agree. Everyone can always learn new things about their ride.

I'd reach out to the local Clubhouse for some Dx help. I bet lots of talent exists where you are now. Pls keep us posted!!

Been really busy, unable to make any progress -- grad orientation was this week and on top of that I got sick. Tomorrow I'll make a write-up and post it both here and there. Sorry for the suspense.

Yes, the RMS is still leaking -- I ordered parts for that and they arrived on Wednesday. When the failure happened, it sounded like one specific cylinder was firing extremely loud, and as I turned around to try and save myself to go home, there were a few stalls and the engine stopped turning over. Once I got towed back, I immediately poured what was left of my rotella t4 container into the 2F and it turned over again, but very quickly turned it off to make sure I wouldn't damage it further. I am planning on dropping the oil pan this weekend and seeing if anything is amiss there, and also changing out the gasket while I'm there. A RMS change is really in order but I don't know if I will have time to also drop the transmission & flywheel this weekend to get to it.

Not sure how to attach the video of the noise it was making. I guess I just need to make a shareable link.

Oh man, what an ordeal and so far away from ABQ. I feel ya brother, I do fell ya!

I would drain the oil and look for debris in the bottom of the oil pan. Cut open the oil filter and look for debris. Look for fine bearing material in the oil. What does your oil smell like? Approximate how much oil was in the pan when the engine started acting up. Save the oil. Then check to see if the engine is seized. Start with the easy diagnostics. Let us know what you find.

Keep the key out of the ignition. Use hand tools to gently rotate the engine. What do you hear and feel?

Installed a used decked system and replaced a busted tail light. 1 🍌 jobs. This truck is shaping up nicely. Just waiting for my camper shell to ship.

There was a significant lack of oil that at least to me didnt necessarily account for the leak ( last oil change was ~1300 miles ago). The oil itself wasnt shiny (i.e. metal bits) and I didn't see any large chunks fall out. Shining my headlamp on it just showed it was very dirty/cloudy. My naive guess is that its hemorrhaging oil so badly that it was too low to run smoothly... But then i never got any indication of that on the oil meter. Will remove and look at filter next.

I had some tasty treats waiting for me that had collected inside the drain plug. 😬

The oil itself didn't feel gritty... I'm wondering what this could be. Was avoiding taking off the oil pan but it's inevitable.
