What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Not sure how but my Harmonic Balancer from Partsouq was able to dodge all the bombs and bullets and make it to Mississippi. Also picked up the head from the machine shop and it looks dang brand new! Now all I need is that new short block assembly to get here!

Cut the sheet metal out in sections to make it easier. There's some structure in the tailgate that is too tall for an angle grinder to reach. I used a combination of electric file and a jigsaw to cut the pieces out.
Also install some edge gaurd the sheet metal gets pretty sharp even after filling or grinding it down.

Yes, 2024 TRD Pro Tundra in Terra, good eye! I had a 2023 1794 with the long bed and hated the long bed, and when I drove by the lot and saw this one in Terra, I traded on the spot!
I am actually looking at getting the new Tundra as a daily. Terra, Lunar and White are my favorite colors but there are a lot of Lunar and White ones on the road, not too many Terra colored ones.

My problem is I am also wanting a truck to tow the 80 to events that are a decent drive.

With the oil pressure/bearing issues I would wait for the 2027 Tundra to come out. They finally have the issues resolved it seems with the engine failures. I towed my 80 500 miles from Arkansas back to Mississippi and it handled it no problem. I just don’t want the turbo heating the oil up so much that it fries the bearings.

Well after fighting the painless 30814 harness for a day I gave up and order two on amazon. Unfortunately my original corners don't fit so newish koito ones on order from Japan. Only thing left for the quads is move the left side power lead to the driver side battery. The 24v starter system fried the H4 and H1 bulbs on the passenger side :skull:

Only thing left is the figure out the fog lights and then also, turns out I have a running lights harness. Maybe I'll do ditch lights on the fog switch and run bumper mounted running lights.

But isn't that what factory recall and extended warranties are for... LOL?

I have been thinking of getting a 2500 Ram too. Most cars have their issues and I would make modifications to help both keep vital fluids cool/cooler during towing.

New charcoal canister and gas cap gasket. Filled up tank for first time yesterday. Lots of pressure released when I removed gas cap. Then it leaked like a sieve after filling up. Hopefully it was just the old canister and not the actual leak at the top of the tank.

Well that didn’t fix it. Gassed up today (although not all the way). Still leaked, less than last time, but this time more on driver side. Last time it was on the pass side of the tank. Next step is to open up the access for the fuel pump and see if maybe the gasket there is bad. Was going to change pump anyway as PM. If that doesn’t solve it, dropping tank is in my future…

I am going to be honest. I believe that the over pressure of the tank from bad charcoal canisters is what causes these tanks to crack. The common area is where the parking brake goes over the tank. When I bought my 80 I did not have any leak issues till the canister took a dump, it never leaked out the fill tube just one day it was leaking from the tank.

If you can find a known good factory tank or LRA tank I would just save yourself the heartache and BS work and replace the tank. The fill tubes hoses and vent hoses are still available so "while you are in there" I would knock those out.

Thanks

Replaced fusible link (looked to be original), circuit opening relay, and fuel pump relay. Keeping the old ones in the glove box as spares.

Good point. I used my electric file and sandpaper to smooth the edges.
