And I gave the White Rhino some antishine and a couple new abrasions up at Rubithon. Sorry, I took zero action photos because I've been over the Rubicon like 50 times and I've learned that pics do it no justice.

Wheeling is a contact sport and dirt makes cruisers happy. You can quote me on this.:flipoff2:View attachment 1499148View attachment 1499147 View attachment 1499146
Damn looks great in white, I was thinkin bout changing mine to grey. anyone ever recoat the coating?? wrapping up my first birfiled replacement today 1 day done. KOYO

Replaced the contacts within the starter to see if that would fix my no start CLICK issue, it did. The rebuild kit I bought was clearly not for the 1.8kW starter I have as the contacts wouldn't line up. Nothing a little time in the vise, some heat and judicious use of both the BFH and ball peen.
Reinstalled the starter and tested. It attempted to fire up but only turned over. Forgot to hook up the 3rd positive wire that runs from the fusible link. Once I did that, she started as normal.

Good memories indeed. I learned to drive off-road as a young CIT in the camp surplus army pickup. Someone made me a bet that I couldn't drive across the pond. Who knew that a '67 M715 would make a REALLY COOL bow wave until it stalled out in 4+ feet of water, in full view of the Ranger’s cabin. I’ve never dried an ignition with my shirt so quick… ;)

I find Boy Scouts more important than ever to today’s kids. The skills and experiences Scouting offers are harder and harder to come by in the environment today’s youth grow up in. Leadership, personal responsibility and accountability, creative problem solving, positive attitude, and survival skills whether in the wild or not.

Something about seeing a Scout in his Class A uniform saluting during flag ceremony, doing his “good turn daily”, or hearing Taps echo across a lake each evening, still stirs my heart. I still can’t make it through Scout Vespers without tearing up.

It’s even more special now that I am watching my son come up through the ranks and get to see him transform from a boy into a young man.

Damn it man, I couldn't have said it better myself. One of my regrets while growing up was not staying in Scouts longer.

Got high.

FYI - The chrome center caps have different clips than the Toyota caps. My trucks original owner threw away all the clips (long clips) and siliconed the caps on. I've been looking for long clips to affix my caps for 3 years. All the Toyota caps are short. Finally gave up and left the caps off. Still have silicone to clean off every wheel.
Chrome wheels suck on the trail, I have a pea sized chip on one and it's a fortune to have it fixed. I'd stick with polishing your aluminum rims, you can easily buff out scratches.

You can get generic chrome caps on eBay.

I thought the clips looked funny to me. The LX will now take duty as the daily driver so it shouldn't get too beat up I hope. I'll save the LC for camping/trails etc.

Picked up a new to me 97 LX 450 last week for my wife so that I can claim back my 97 landcruiser from her :) Spent the last few days starting to get familiar with it - coolant flush, oil change, new belts, checked diff oil and knuckle grease which were surprisingly clean. Ended up giving her a deep cleaning as well to get rid of 20 years of other people's mess by stripping the carpets and washing them and cleaning out the interior.

Now to go take her for a long drive and see how she does.
how hard was it to remove the carpet? I am thinking about putting sound deadening and new carpet on the fj80 I am eyeing to buy :)

Attempted plain old oil change. Fumoto quick drain valve barely let any oil out, so draining took forever o_O. No mess, but long time. Then filter stuck on the engine block. What was going to be 15 min zero  turns into time suck

Now that I've had them for a few miles I can't say enough good things about the Scheelmann seats, night and day. I can drive forever, feels like a new truck..

love the seats. how hard was it to install it? and did you have the heat wired as well?

Got it. I replaced my TPS last summer and had no issues until last week. Upon driving 1+ hours and coming to a stop mine idle heads north to 2k. Upon accelerating things return to normal. If I shut the rig down, start it back up, also back to normal....

Currently doing my MUD due diligence and trying to see if anyone else has had similar issues.
Have you checked your throttle cable? I have a similar issue and read that if you pull up on the skinny pedal with your foot, and it normalizes, the throttle cable needs to be adjusted.

What have you got the valve cover off for, valve adjustment?

Apparently the backing plate behind the cam gear needs to come off to replace the water pump, and to get the gear off you need to get a wrench on the camshaft to keep it in place. Followed this vid (and the FSM):

While I was in there I did check valve shim tolerances, which luckily were all in spec.

Install was quite easy since I used Planted adapters Home page

The front holes did not line up *exactly* so I expanded two of them then it was a cinch. I don't have a welder or a reliable fab guy so went with Planted. many others with skills and space just weld plate
