Fresh water pump, thermostat, and coolant hoses all over the front of the engine. Crazy thinking it should be fine until 500-600k miles

I'd like to give a shout out to @SUMMIT CRUISERS and @SUMMIT CRUISERS Jr for their post in the weekend thread about snorkel install. I was spinning my wheels a bit and about to cut when I came across their post. I lined up the supplied template as their post suggested and cut. The hole was spot on. I then marked the threaded posts with paint and pressed them against the fender. Center punch and uninitiated drilled them out a little bit bigger.

I used the double sided tape method to line up the mounting on the windshield.

Should take about two hours. Took me a little longer as I had to remove my dual battery stuff to get access. And I cleaned up one of my battery cables to be a better length.

Is there a way to attach the snorkel, but not drill the A pillar? Somehow to the rain gutters maybe?

Hmmm......No. Top of snorkel comes no where near the rain gutter. Man up and drill away.

I think the fuel filter cap is leaking air into the system, so why not replace it with the heated cap and associated wiring? New antenna, striker for the center console flap, front tow hooks (hdj81's have hooks incompatible with ARB bumpers), new AC Idle pulley, belts, resistor for the climate control (hopefully it works on anything other than high!), new parking brake cable, some oil change bits.

This s*** adds up fast! I still need a new front and rear heater blower, fix the cruise control part in the a442f, dead power passenger rear p/w, rear carpet, headlight washer nozzle to retrofit onto depos, and a few other goodies. Oh, and a total suspension overhaul, lol.

Old trucks man....

Hoping maybe a bracket to the rain gutter would do the trick.

@NLXTACY had a running joke on me regarding "no holes". Can't stand the thought of drilling my 80.

No holes? :hmm: What do you think that 3" hole is to get to your air intake? o_O Plus all the bolt holes in the quarter panel, what's four more small holes in your A pillar? :slap:

Now run down to your local Walmart, buy some big boy Depends, put them on for the inevitable crap in your pants:flush: as you prepare to drill that massive hole, mask off your quarter panel, trust the template, I repeat trust your template...unless you buy a cheap Chinese knock off of a snorkel, double tape and drill away!

You can replace the fender, but not the A pillar.

You are not allowed to bring logic into a discussion on snorkel's and whether they add horsepower or just look cool or whether drilling so many holes in a perfectly good truck makes any sense at all my friend! :D:flipoff2:

Last time I looked in a mirror I still don't look like Aloha Jen, so I need to chose my battles carefully and use different weapons.

One could argue for the roll over protection it offers.

@LS1FJ40 , do you have that link?

Not this one but same concept. Line up the template with the end of the fender (it's obvious) and along the top edge of the fender. Cut your big hole where it says to cut it. Disregard all of the other holes. I'd cut the big hole about 3.75" to make room for the rubber boot to slide through and have a little wiggle room.

eBay Snorkel install

That's cool. I just didn't GAF about drilling in mine. I put a bed of marine grade silicone before the bracket. Then spread that around the outside edge.

Great pic but..... wth is it? @karlslashwarren

3m VHB is my guess but folks might like to know

Tsk tsk tsk. Silicone? The rust promoting stuff recommended not to be used on this sight ? :p

The runoff in the Sierra is still too high to go play in the river, so I had to go play in the snow.

Hiked in to this waterfall.

I made a custom mount for my snorkel, use a 1/2 inch stainless rod bent to match the contour of the A pillar. One end mounts to the roof rack the other to a bolt under under the cowl (between the fender and cowl. Works great and no holes!!!
