What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (53 Viewers)

Didn't get to do much to the 80s this weekend. Did take the 93 fishing. Figured out why the front locker doesn't lock (plug on the actuator is broken and won't hold the wiring harness, ordering new from @beno).

Did tear in to the spare motor some more. Was hoping to get the head off but didn't have enough time. Got it down to getting ready to pull the cams.

Throttle body is solid black inside.

Didn't have a 6mm bolt to put in the exhaust cam so I will pick one up at work tomorrow.

And oiled up the Red Wings with Rotella.

Took the 80 to Prom. No pics of it with my date just one with me. Was super fun and it performed flawlessly like usual.

In other news there is a new gas station in my town with Ethanol Free Gas. Thought I would give it a shot to see if I could notice any power or MPG gains. Didn't notice better performance however, I did see that usually on regular gas around half a tank I am at about 150 miles. On the Ethanol Free stuff I made it to around 190. Very happy with the gains

(No i did not take this picture while driving the person I was driving with did)

It would have to be a Tommy Bahama tux for a 100 series...

Is it a bad idea not to cover them up?? I haven't yet. There is surface rust but...
Here not so much. Have to keep up appearances.

Watching it rain and decided to do the charcoal canister mod. Used a carbide burr and removed the check ball on the tank side. Refilled the charcoal with new and jb weld back together. Hopefully no more fuel leaking out the gas cap on steep hillsView attachment 1446471

Nice work on the CC refresh, but to keep fuel from spilling out your gas cap, you're going to have to replace your gas cap...

@Serina it's an AOE. American overland expedition. Unfortunately their customer service isnt as quality as the bumper but if your local (ca) and not in a rush it might be one to consider.

Very impressed with all of the uplanding you guys get access to. We just have a ton of rough and gravel roads. No real trails to speak of. I just got the whole map of the Chequamegon National Forest which has all the roads marked out.

My rig is ready for the adventure. I will post pics of the trails as they become available. I am driving the Gunflint Trai, which is a historic access road into the BWCAW in May. It won't be a chlenge, but bringing everything along will be. I imagine at least two, if not three, canoes will be on the rack and I'll have a lot of cargo.
I wish I could find even rough and gravel roads near me, I hate driving on asphalt all the time. Best bet for me is the Pine Barrens or make the drive to Rausch Creek in PA.

Started early Saturday morning on the white 80 doing 1" spacers on top of the OME stock height springs I put in last fall. Next came a sandblast job on the hubs and chassis saver paint. Then new KYB shocks. Next up was the new ARB bumper. Drove it home from my shop and did a couple of poser shots on the woods trail. Blasted 2 hours north in my other 80 to see an old friend and hit a seasonal road on the way home at 8:00 a.m. this morning for good measure. Back on the white 80 again as soon as I got home. Ended tonight halfway through a new rotor/pad job to cap maintenence off. Extended weekend tomorrow after work to finish (I hope).

I hate shock tower mounts like that. Luckily on all of the suspensions I've done over the years I haven't had to cut the nuts.

Anyone have their FSM handy? I took mine out to work on my spare motor last night and didn't put it back it. Threw a Code 28.

Thanks.

Pretty sure that code has to do with a bad o2 sensor..obd1?

Unfortunately I am about an hour drive North of me for the seasonal roads to really open up, then there's a ton.

It was wierd with that shock. It was coming off fine with my cordless impact then it suddenly stripped. Quick solution with the cut off saw. I bought a cordless one and use the crap out of it!

I'm not looking forward to removing my shocks...I feel like the cutting equipment may need to come out. New ones will go on with liberal anti-seize.

So I was out at Demo Point yesterday (local beach) when I spotted a Tahoe and a Chevy pickup buried in the sand being winched out by a Toyota pickup.

The Toyota seemed to have everything under control, but when I returned to the same spot about ~25 minutes later, everyone was gone except for the Tahoe, which was still semi buried, but didn't really appear to be stuck (he should been able to get out easily)

The driver said everyone tried to pull him out, but he kept getting stuck.

So I winched him out and that's when I realized he didn't have FWD, only RWD (perhaps a busted T-case?) and was digging himself in with every stab of the gas.

I asked if he had aired down and he said yes, which turned out to be BS, but whatever.

I decided to just break out my tow strap (his apparently snapped) and just drag him all the way back to the entrance.

As I pulled past the air stations to air up, he just drove past me and I could clearly see he didn't air down at all.

Had he aired down properly, he probably would've made it back on his own with RWD alone.

I soon found out that no good deed goes unpunished cause as I was airing up, it started raining and all my gear got wet and cruddy.

Anyhoo, I didn't really plan on making this video cause the mechanical failure could've happened to anyone, but the fact that he didn't air down at all really irked me, so onto YouTube he goes.

@98 SNAKE EATER your good deed does not go unappreciated. I go to Demo all the time - well I did, until they switched the registration deadline to Mar 31 this year now I'm SOL until next year. While it rained at least you can still get out there ; )

happy trails

I removed my factory alarm a couple weeks ago, and my parts came in last Thursday for the additional work I wanted.

* Removed factory Alarm
* Replaced the steering shaft seal on the firewall
* Replaced the rag joint on the steering shaft (flex-joint)
* Installed a CDL switch (Re-purposed Hazard switch)
* Did the Pin-7 mod. (Thanks @cruiserdan !!)
* Replaced the DS Cabela's seat cover with the new version that has a separate headrest. (I think I like the ones that have the headrest covered as if it was a one-piece seat better)
* Bought a set of replacement rims from a LX450. I'll need to blast and repaint the rims, but I'm going to use the rubber from them on our son's '70 GMC K2500 (I need to replace the chrome rims that are on my 80)
* Added a clip to my WeatherTech floormats to better secure them. (See pics) I cut a small rectangular hole in the mat above the factory hole in the carpet to match the size of the clip. Holds them in place MUCH better.

Now I have all my parts to replace all the window runs and the belt mouldings. Maybe I'll make it a lot quieter inside yet!

Also got replacement bump stops for the rear axle. (The PO hit a guardrail on the front and this is residual stuff that didn't get replaced)
