Started it up, cleaned the snow off. Called the pizza place, no answer. Called all the food places in Camino, nobody open. Shut it down...

Keep one of these on hand in case you need a quick fix

oooh, I guess it could be. I got it to crank over by starter- at least I hear the starter working_ I think the engine is turning too, but just sticking to Known Knowns - and every revolution it bogs at the same spot.

Isn't there a video of @Pighead starting his pig with the hand crank floating around here somewhere???
There may be, I've done it a few times. Started other people's Landcruisers too.

low. 12.54. been too long since I ran it up. battery is only a year old. I gotta rig an onboard maintainer. I put in a source unknown dizzy in it a few months ago so I could get the big cap OEm gone thru, and so I was gunna yank it to check the sheer pin. The starter was also on my list of easy things to check first. I also thought maybe the battery was just low, but the grinding happened after it had rolled over a few times. It sounded like the starter was engaging the ring gear when I hit the key after that, it would budge a very tiny bit then stop. Did that twice and the third time I thought I heard a backfire that "seemed" to coincide with the motion stopping, so I unplugged the coil, and let it sit while I panicked for a few seconds. Then the starter would turn it over all the way but it bogged pretty seriously at a specific point each time around.

I should know this after all of these years.BUT: when did the hand crank start disappear from the 40/55 trucks?

Take out the sparkplugs and try again...

I think all the 55s had them, just to lower the spare tire. The ability to use it on the crankshaft, I think went away with the A/C on the US models. Handcranking might still work in the rest of the world.

I suppose it is. I know the crank bolt has a larger diameter than the bolt of an fj60. Don't know if the earlier bolt fits the late pulley...
