5 Speed

Scrapdaddy let me know where your at in the process and I'll try and give you some ideas on what worked and didn't for me.

But the effort is really worth it the first time you get on the hwy!!

Did 3.70s from a 60 33 Goodyears, and now the 5 speed is in

:steer: =s :bounce::bounce::bounce:

OldBeachBob,

I'm along way off. Front axle is taken apart and getting 4.11's and ARB's in both axles. Then I need to get the frame under the body and start making my mounts. I'm getting some stuff from Georg, to make it go alittle easier. I'm slow, so give me a month and I'll holler at you.

Thanks, Ron

put plates back on the blue pig and a new clutch with a freshly turned flywheel in the pickle. :)

I started removing my dried and crusty coolant hoses... I fount LOTS of corrosion in the thermostat neck. So I decided to pull it and I found that the water outlet housing was cracked at the two bolts holding it to the block when it came off in my hands. I guess I will be making a trip to the dealership.

dressed it with an 86 4runner booster and master. Utilised the pigs rear ?prop?valve. didn't get the check valve, but know where to find one. Pigs never stopped like this before.:bounce:

we went camping and then drove up to see "dad" this morning.

Are you sure about the axle gearing?

My 55 with Nv4500 + 4.88 gears + 35s +2500 rpm = 70 MPH (GPS also)

If yours is correct, I may have been hosed on my axle gears:mad:

*edit* or is the H55 OD not a huge jump? *confused*

33's vs. 35's?

You can confirm your ring and pinion ratio by putting axle up on stands, marking the pinion and a tire and then counting how many turns for pinion to get one turn of the tire.

Confirmed 70 MPH RPMs

Ok just ran it again 70 MPH GPS =s 24-2500 RPMs

I've got a OZ 5 speed attached to a 1985 late split case transaxle. The pumkins are out of a 60 so they should be 3.70s.

General observations before the Oz 5 speed was 3,000 RPMs equaled 60 MPH on stock tires and diffs

The 3.70 diffs got me to 3000 RPM =d about 65 MPH

Tires added a little more

The OZ 5 speed seemed to make about a 10% drop in RPMs

I'm pretty sure my tach is close to accurate

Hope this helps?

Still daily driving mine to work & back, love the 55MPH speed limit.
There's a construction restriction on the way home, two lanes merge into one. I can get Ige to call me an "a******" every day when I drive to point where I HAVE to merge and just cut off anyone who happens to be there, I have the bigger tires so I have the right of way. Right?

Today I was faced with a tough choice... Pay a couple hundred for a complete rear seat and a complete functioning tailgate and window, all of which my non-rusty but dented pig needs... OR pay a few hundred more and just take the complete (and rusty) pig home as a parts car. Looks like I have 2 pigs now...

The new plan, rather than get the main one running and drivable asap, drive ol' rusty donor while I strip down the other and really take my time to build it up right. I like this new plan... I mean, I'm doing an engine swap anyway... Might as well tear it all apart anyway :)

I like it - nice to have a driver!

Beware, you're on a slippery slope! I bought a engine-less parts rig to save it from the crusher and help finish up a very original pig. Ended up selling the original and restomodding the parts rig. Only took two years and a couple of additional pigs in the garage along the way plus beaucoup parts purchases on MUD and elsewhere. Drugs and alcohol might have been cheaper, but not as rewarding.

ditched the runner master cylinder, installed a rebuilt 60 series master and then bled bled bled.....new wheel cylinder surfaced drums tipped cups and adjusted to drag. Now I have a pedal again!

Lambcrusher,

Why didn't you like the 4runner, master cylinder? Was it a used one or new. I just bought 4runner calipers with a T100 master and 98 tacoma booster, hope it all works together :)
