Wrapped up the balance shaft delete and timing belt install on the 2.0L TDI, pretty much ready to install at this point. If all goes well the engine will be in the Prado by the end of next week.

Keeping the Bs buzzing.

Question for the brain trust, I'm doing a full preventive overhaul on the BJs 13B-T coolant system. The upper and lower coolant housings look good but have a few pits after cleanup. Planning to fill and smooth with some devcon.

Would it be worthwhile to coat those outlet areas with alodine or some other treatment prior to reinstalling and attaching the coolant hoses?

Built a transmission crossmember, motor mounts and finally got the engine installed in the engine bay. Really liking how things are fitting, the engine bay layout looks like it will be much better with the new TDI than it was with the old one.

You guys ever hear that small, quiet voice in the back of your head that says “don’t come up with a new project until you finish at least one of the other ones? “

I’m really good at ignoring that.

That 15BFT (?) is gonna rip in the quiet voice in your head. Did it come with the 40 or was it one from @AlbertoSD

At least you listen to the voice, where as I, ignore it and regret ignoring for donkey years 🤣🍻

It was a separate bad decision, and it came from @T-ridecruiser! I helped (I mean mostly watched!) Alberto shoehorn one into his BJ42.

This will be fun as it will be on an 80 frame and will be a dedicated trail rig.

15BFT/h55/3:1 t case/Blackbox/37s.

edit: the 15BFT came from @T-ridecruiser….the bad decision was all my own!!! I didn’t want to sound like I got coerced into this!

I vapor honed some parts today. It’s extremely satisfying.

I’m doing it at @aljollano ’s shop. We split the cost of a VHT machine. A.J. lets me come up and make noise sometimes.

I saw something amazing at the Carolina Relic Run last weekend: A 40 series powered by a 3 cylinder Detroit Diesel.

Really an amazing machine.

There is just so much that has gone into this 40 it is hard to describe.

In addition to air brakes, it has a conventional two circuit boosted hydraulic braking system--behind the seat.

And just to justify posting here, my son and I took the diesel pickup and the Omani diesel 80 to the meet and had an absolute blast!

That is the Omani in the center there. The organizers did us the honor of selecting the Omani to represent all 80's in the meet's model lineup, for which we are quite grateful

Got up at 4 AM and reported to work in Stockton/Valley Hybrids. @orangefj45 greeted me with a hug and I had the honor of working with the team on swapping a 1HZ/R151 with a 1HDFT that I rebuilt with a new H152 into a LHD 105. In the 100 series the cross piece that houses the hood latch does NOT come out so it was a PITA putting the new engine in. Finally succeeded but the input shaft of the transfer case from the R151 is different then H152 so Georg will address this in the next few days. The 105 came from Saudia and I puke when I see the wiring. As an example I put the battery connection. Some of the wires are twisted by hand with no insulation.

I use crimped Panduit heavy duty lugs that are used in diesel locomotives. You can buy them on Mouser electronics.

At the moment the guys in Dubai are wrestling with our own little tranny dilema.

Mister Blue the 105 came with an R151 which I lived with for a couple of years after putting in an 1HD-T. But after a ride in sand I destroyed the washer in front of 1st gear and it started popping out of 1st at inconvenient moments so we are putting in an H151 with taller 2nd and 5th installed. And we are learning about the rear mounted gear shift needed for the 105 with split front seats. This one caught me unawares. The repaired R151 is back in Mr. Blue for the moment while we try to get the right set of parts or housing or whatever for the H series components.

I, meanwhile am in Northern Virginia trying to 'help' remotely.
