Proving the utility of the BJ74, I loaded up an old table that wouldn't fit in my 200 series and drove it up to a family cabin in the mountains.

Used the trip as an excuse to do some California "winter" wheeling (inspired by @60toyetero above)

Impressed by how this truck seems to want to take the steeper trails and harder lines

Didn't find snow, but enjoyed the view from the top nonetheless!

Purchased two new batteries and installed them. I went out, hit the key and it gave me the slow drag. Long story short the two batteries in it were smaller than 24 series and they had a rated cold cranking ampst of 380 lol. I do not think that is going to cut it in 0 degree F weather

Hello,

Adjusted the engine idle speed on the FZJ73. It was erratic, but now it is back to 650 - 700 rpm.

Replaced the very old and tired original alternator (was running at 38 amps!) with a brand new 80 amp affair. Discovered the mounting bolt underneath had lost its nut somewhere in history, explained the strange vibration the unit had.

Is this for a 2H? Is this the internal regulator or external regulator?

The original alternator was from a 2h engine, however when we swapped in the 12ht I kept the old alt as the new engine didn't come with one. It was indeed internal regulated which made life easy.

I had my mechanic install a new 24/12v converter. The PO had one that was not switched (and I think was causing my battery drain) and was not big enough for much, so I wanted to set this up better. My mechanic installed a constant duty solenoid switched to the ignition. He also fabricated a nice mounting bracket in front of the old battery, and a new 12v fusebox.

I wish I was handier with electrical and could do this myself, but glad I found a mechanic who is happy to do this kind of work.

I like seeing your converter in the engine bay.
I put mine up above the glove box. Not much airflow for mine.

^^Epic!! Some kind of removable roof on that one?! Very cool! J

Took it up to the local ski hill. I borrowed a fat bike and did a loop on the Nordic Highway. I think I need to get me a fat bike now.

I love how I can fit a bike in the back w/out removing the wheel and there's room to spare. I still want to build a swing-out hitch, so I can put my bike rack on it and swing it out of the way.

Owyhee,

'I think i need to get me a fat bike now'? One addiction leads to another...

Owyhee, if you can provide any info on the 40 Series Troopie's roof, it would be appreciated.

Hi,

decided to take this:

And turn her into this, and then sending her away...

And hopefully she will be just fine again ;) Maybe even better than before!

Are you referring to the 45 series with the high roof in the post from @NanaMaru ?
