What did you do on your 70 series today? (27 Viewers)

Moved the drivers seat back by about 40 mm (1 3/4 inches). I am 6'4" and needed a little more leg room. It was easier than I thought; I just put the old bolts back in their holes and drilled new holes back as far as I could; you can't go further as there is brace across the pan underneath that would block the bolts. Its cold out here so I couldn't paint or prime the holes I drilled. I'll have to take it apart in the spring and do that.

The extra bit of leg room is perfect.

New shocks and had to have a whole new fuel tank installed. Next is new motor mounts and new windshield frame.

Installed new Toyota wheels on the truck, thanks to Onur, plus new BFG tires (Mud Terrain TA KM2 255/85R16)

The wheels seem very stout (by weight) and the tires don't seem to be light weights either. I think they will serve well.

Cold for once and I found my batteries dead.
Jumped it and drove it to the auto electrical shop that did me right so many times 25 years ago when I as heavily into British sports cars (Lucas: the Prince of Darkness!)

Free charging system check and 2 new interstate batteries installed. (MTP-78DT's)
All is well.

Hello,

Not exactly today, but after a while postponing it, I finally took the FZJ73 for some wheeling and a river crossing.

It was a few days ago but better late than never...

The trip was uneventful and there were some great views. The repairs/tweaks I have done seem to be working well.

Finally have the Cruiser to a satisfactory point and let my wife drive the 73 after nearly a year of ownership. About 5 mins in she says, "I can see why you like this...". She later asked me and drove the Cruiser by herself 3 times in a week!

I started rebuilding the front axle knuckles on the 70 News Year eve and finished it up this afternoon...
Sort of
I still have to bleed the brakes, but there was no one at home this afternoon so I hope to do it tomorrow night after work.

Big thanks to Onur for the parts. The kit had everything I needed and every part/seal was top quality.

Here are a couple of progress shots.

I know that the shop is a mess and the camera appears to show it as being messier than I appreciated. I guess I have many days ahead of me to clean and organize the shop, but that is not a story to bore this thread with.

Hey Gus,

Yes i love them too, have you seen teh ones with the element in them? They are a little more pricey but might work well in Co with winter. have you had any issues with ice buildup yet?

Andrew, These really were a big improvement and an easy one at that. I have not seen the element style headlamps, what are the advantages? I haven't had the chance to spend much time out in the cold with the Troopy yet (it's garaged fairly often), so no icing issues as of yet, but we will see in the next couple of months how they do.
