I am interested in one as well. My FZJ75 uses the same one.

Sometimes it is fun to have a few cosmetic parts that can be installed while piddling in the garage!!

Turning the cruiser into a daily has meant a few comfort changes and some legal changes like a working horn and better windscreen wipers.
Last week I realised I need tow hitch wiring and as usual one thing leads to another.
I had just used a rattle can to protect the rear bar till I could find the time to 2pac or powder coat it. Now was the time.
Cut the double plug (7 pin and Anderson) and an air hose fitting in then sanded, dewaxed, rust inhibitor and 2pac primer ready for black raptor coating when it stops raining here.

Finished the Dobinson lift on the 73 Saturday. Handles a metric sh1ton better without those extended shackles it came with. Gained 2" front and rear but imagine it will settle some. Extended the bump stops and adjusted the LSPV Sunday.

Today, I bought one.

1994 Prado.

what should I work on first?
Pictures or it doesn’t count! 😉 What you need to tackle first depends on what kind of shape it is in. I would do a thorough mechanical inspection first and see what is looking worn. If you have no record of a timing belt replacement I would look at doing that first: timing belt, idler, tensioner and water pump. Might as well do cam and crank seals while you’re in there.

Hello,

Maintenance time for Chance. It clocked 395000 km.

I took the chance to have the transmission, transfer and differentials oil changed. It has been a while since I baselined it.

I also took the chance to have the carburetor disassembled and cleaned. Ever since I got the truck, I just had the carburetor tuned; I took the admission duct out and sprayed cleaner periodically as well, but nothing else. I do not know if the PO had it cleaned.

Thankfully, other than the deposits, the carburetor is in good shape. I will replace all the vacuum piping.

Some carburetor porn. Notice the crud that built up.

Chance runs better now, and idle speed is smooth.

By the way, carburetor kits for this model are discontinued. The shop said they have a supplier that makes OEM-spec jets for this carburetor. Carburetors and mechanics who understand them are becoming a disappearing breed in my neck of the woods, or so it seems.

All of this is rather new for me. Before Chance, I drove fuel injected vehicles only. I guess that carburetors need some serious TLC to keep going.

Took a while, but finally got the my BJ74 (aka Righty) back on the road after the alternator gave out. One day, the Battery and Filter light came on and I noticed the voltage slowly dropping as I drove. Luckily I wasn't far from my garage, so I didn't get stranded. After poking around with the multimeter, I determined in fact the alternator was not putting out much...like 0.

After some research here, came up with nothing, so tried a few local alternator shops and found one (Broadway Electric in Lemon Grove, CA) who have experience with these and were willing to work on it. They came through in the end, but took some time which I suppose is to be expected.

In the mean time, I got distracted by a trip to Ghana to do some Land Cruiser spotting

Back up and running (you'll have to use your imagination...too lazy to upload a video!)

Now am just waiting on @ToyotaMatt for a fusible link I ordered many weeks ago...nudge nudge! With that Right's electrical system will be back in tip top shape!
Following up on this...

@ToyotaMatt came through with the fusible links I ordered (Thanks Matt!). One installed, one kept as a spare I'll likely never need.

Looking good straight out of the box

Even better installed
