It turned out to be a 4 pinion LSD in the picture. It's been installed in my FF rear of my 60. I'm really happy
with it. Put it through a couple of days on quad trails, and two serious stucks needing winching out. Seems to
do what it was intended for. I'm running Pennzoil LS semi synthetic oil. All good.

I've got two VINs here with same axle codes. K085
Question: Would the 5 be for the 4 pinion LSD, because that's what is in there? I pulled a 2 pinion LSD out of a BJ60 but it's long gone and
no idea of axle code. It is a 4.11 though, as they all are.
 
Installed some Polk Audio speakers front and rear. Used door pods made by LPA is get clearance between the speaker and window mechanism.

Fit and finish is perfect and the speakers are a nice upgrade.

I believe that is the case, "5" for 4-pinion and "3" for 2-pinion, both LSD.

Perhaps somebody who knows for sure can confirm?

Hello,

I remember reading somewhere that the 4-pinion/2-pinion option started with the 40 Series around 1980. That might be the reason why 5 and 3 in a 40/60 Series Axle code indicates an LSD, respectively.

Made a good start on getting a solid 12 volts from the second battery to the rear and fit new sockets and stuff. There is a nice place on the C pillar between the seat belt and rear window,on the 76, nice and high as well, to fit some power sockets and USB's. National Luna, the fridge guys are local ( South African) and a stone throw from my house, and they make some good sockets and USB's as well. Not finished yet, but this is todays progress.

This is a stretch to be on topic, but ...
Driving home from work in the BJ70 this afternoon, I had the pleasure of refusing multiple offers for the truck from a guy next to me in a F350. After I confirmed to him that it was absolutely a Land Cruiser and the model was a BJ70, he asked how much I would need to part with it. I told him that he could not afford it. He replied with Gimme a price. So I told him 40k, which silenced for a few seconds. But only a few seconds, before he asked if I was interested in other classic cars where I would consider a trade with cash. I told him that my only interest and weakness was Land Cruisers. That got a me a short span of silence and to the next light, where he offered up his '78 FJ40. I told him that I have two '81 FJ40s so my quota in 40s was filled. Light turned and we parted.
This was the most determined buyer in traffic that I have encountered in a long time. It was nice to see that the 70 inspired healthy interest on his part.

To be clear, he did realize you weren't driving a Wrangler? :)
 
I had a guy pedal up to me on a high-end mountain bike when I was stopped at a light. He handed me his business card and said "Please call me if you ever decide to sell this." Then he pedaled off......:)

and yes, that tre in the power steering arm is still there, arlfter 1 day of trying to remove it:worms: if anyone knows the magic trick I'm all ears
 
When in doubt, cut it out!


I can't see very good in your picture but I have cut off a few pitman arms that were seriously seized. Just be careful, don't go to deep and cut with the splines. Often one cut will do it and a puller will get it off after you put a slice in it.
