Ok so I tried in the 80s fb group a couple times. Got no real advice. Idk how much needs replaced, I swapped the belts and when I was checking how tight they were I noticed the fan pulley move when I pushed down on belts. Do I just need a pulley? The bracket? Or a new water pump? Fan is tight. Hasn't at all ever overheated.

Edit it tried attached a short video but it wont upload

Can you take a few photos of the water pump ie: before and after pushing on the belts?
Also, describe what happened in more detail ie: how did the water pump "move"??
Did you check the water pump (shaft) ie: grab/push/pull/rotate/listen/feel before installing the belts?
Was the WP making noise or leaking before you installed the belts?
How many miles on the WP, original or aftermarket ?

Can you upload the video to somewhere like youtube then post the link in this thread?

See if that works

So the waterpump didnt move, just the pulley. Ive had to retighten it twice since and it needs it again but I quit driving it. Never any noises before, and it only makes a noise after initial start up. So it lasts maybe 5 seconds. But its more belt noise than anything. As far as og or not I have no idea. Ive only owned it 2-3yrs. It does have 264xxx miles so id guess not og? But no idea. I only changed the belts because I could see it wasnt touching one of the smaller pulleys and they were worn

i watched the video, sounds like loose belt to me

try pouring / spraying water over the belts and see if the noise disappears?
Did you recheck the tension after running the new belts for 5-10 minutes?

So this video was before the 1st retighten, since its calmed down alot. I did spray some belt dressing on it and it helped. My main concern is the pulley, as ive learned the ribbed belts I put on create more noise vs the oem belts

if ribbed belts then there is your noise. you can remove the small idler near the alternator however Toyota put it there for a reason. Just get the proper belts and youll be right. Ribbed belts can only be used quietly on the AC as the pulleys are valley type as opposed to the idler near the alternator being flat

Right that part i know, but the pulley is my concern. I watched it move left to right. The fan/wp pulley. I just need to know how in depth parts wise i need to be. Pulley, bracket, pump or a combo to fix the pulley. I assume bearings are shot, I just dont know where at

These are all the parts in the water pump set:

If the pump isn't leaking, it's probably OK. If the pulley isn't seated fully onto the pump pilot, you'll have problems.

Always clean the pump front pilot well, and lightly lubricate it with Vaseline prior to install the pulley. This will make getting it off next time much easier.

NOTE: these are the parts for the 1FZ-FE engine only.

It would be helpful for everyone reading your posts if you put your year model and any mods in your signature. There are differences between the three generations of 80s which make giving advice difficult.

My bad, yes its a 94 triple lock fzfe. No mods that would be related to issue.

So doing more research the only way the pulley would move would be bad bearings in the bracket? This is minorly urgent as I have a bad knee and w spring trying to drive my other whip (stick shift) isn't fun w clutch. If thats the case and its the bracket. Please tell me i dont have to worry about doing anything with wp/timing right now?

Reading through this thread I can't quite figure out what you're referring to that's "loose".
Idler pullies are available and inexpensive from Toyota. The 88440-26090 has a replaceable bearing Timken 6301-2RS.

16371-66020. And its equally confusing to me. Mostly the info i got from the 80s group on fb -___- that pulley has play

FYI, there are about 6 people who know what they're talking about on the 80s Facebook group. Everyone else is a knucklehead.

Mud is where the knowledge lives and it runs deep.

The part number you mentioned is the fan pulley that is bolted to the water pump. The only way that could be loose is if the water pump bearing is destroyed or the studs stripped out of the pump flange or the nuts backed off.

See the exploded view in post #9.

Ok so where should I start?

Take it apart and find the issue.
It's 4 nuts on 4 studs.
Again, the exploded view is in post 9.

Remove the belts.
Remove the 4 12mm nuts that fasten the fan clutch to the rotating assembly, and it all comes apart.

The fan/fan clutch comes out with the fan shroud to avoid damaging the radiator fins.
Then you're left with the pulley hanging on the studs on the water pump flange.

It's all held together by those 4 12mm nuts on the water pump studs. There's no magic here.
