Was deal thread, now TJM locker install thread

I am curious to where they are made, I am not a fan of some imported parts Japanese I trust most others I run, and the warranty

I had read a long time ago that TJM lockers were made in Australia, but I wasn't sure if they still were. So I emailed them and asked this:
"Hello, I already own a TJM Pro Locker and I love it. Where are your Pro Lockers manufactured? Also is it true that this is the same design as a Mcnamara diff locker?"

This was the reply I got:
"Thanks very much for your comments!

All of our ProLockers are design and made in Australia by our Prolocker team. I have no idea about the design of Mcnamara diff locker, believe the function will be same but the design won’t be exactly same. Hope that I answer your question."

Even though the deal is dead now I figure I'll post this up anyway for the curious. I ordered off the original links I posted and here's what I got for anyone interested in what's included.

I ordered this BSP G 1/4" - 19 TPI Parallel tap from eBay fro $11.25 based on the tip of the bulkhead fitting being an odd size that a few guys mentioned earlier in the thread.

The only concern I had with the TJMs was reading on a few older(years ago) forum posts that the little copper line on the actuator had to be bent 90 degrees right where it exits the actuator and that it often broke. It seems TJM addressed this with the copper line now coming out of the actuator at 90 degrees straight from the factory so it doesn't have to be bent.

All included bearings are Nachi, made in Japan.

@ih8everything,

Thanks for posting pics. Did you confirm from the fitting you received in the box is in fact BSP 19? I thought I read it may have been changed to metric size.

I will be interested to see how/where folks install the switches and tie into compressor. Ive been eyeing a spot on the center console, the overhead console by the sunglasses holder, and the easiest area by the factory locker location left side by my knee.

Yes the fitting is BSP 19. I am going to run an OEM 80-series locker switch in the factory location. Guide here on TLCFAQ I think I paid under $80 for the switch and harness. My compressor and light bar switches will be in the overhead console as done by OregonLC.

Link to RobRed's write up was exactly what I needed- thanks again!:beer:cheers!

Funny how it goes! I was home pretty much the entire day dealing with our upcoming move to CO. The only 20 minutes I left the premisses (to get the kids from school) and left my wife alone (btw, not previously warned about my new purchase) is exactly when the brown truck decides to deliver the danm thing! :)
She's cool but I was thinking: Really?

Looks like the BSP 19 Tap is no longer available on the ebay link you sent

I accidentally ordered 2. I'll sell one once they arrive.

Dang, how did I miss this one? :( If anyone changes their mind and wants to sell a front send me a PM.

I had a shop start on my install on Monday and it's still not finished. I ordered the British Pipe Tap from Amazon weeks ahead of time and they never shipped it (I eventually canceled the order when they weren't responding). I emailed the shop I used a week in advance to see if they had the tap and they didn't respond either. I was forced to show up to my appointment and hope they had the part but of course, they call me a couple of days later and they don't have it, so they had to order it which in turn left me with out my ride for a couple more days.

The also said they had a problem fitting the front locker because of the bracket. I didn't get any more info on it but I'll be sure to let you guys know what happened. I am supposed to pick it up today.

FYI as you are installing the solenoid to your compressor manifold (where you connect your locker air hose to the compressor) from the orientation of the inlet and outlet of the solenoid isn't marked so you're left guessing which side connects to the compressor and which side connects to the compression fitting.

The side of the solenoid with the wires coming out faces the manifold- also if you look inside the solenoid block where the 1/8 fittings go you'll see one side has a larger hole (inlet) and the other side has a very tiny hole) outlet. Another clue telling you the larger opening is the inlet side.

Maybe this helps save someone some guesswork. Good luck on your installs. My rear locker is on the install schedule for next month. Fingers crossed that goes smoothly.

Just got off the phone with the shop I'm using and we have more problems. The fittings that the hoses attach to are leaking air. I can't just simply run and grab parts from TJM right now so they are going to ditch the air lines and fittings that TJM lockers use and going to retrofit more universal parts. Unreal. That's about all the information I can give right now.

This shop installs ARB lockers all the time. They are a differential and axle specialty shop, so they know what they're doing. They are perplexed by some of the decisions TJM made with some of the parts. They are modifying parts to make it work. I'll be sure to give you guys more info once I have it but the truck could be there yet another day.

Here's the thing. I will have functioning front and rear lockers when all of this is finished and I did it for under $2K installed. If they hold up for the next 5 years, I will have felt like I made the right decision. If I were made of money, there is no doubt I would have went with ARB though. The ability to get parts at anytime is worth the cost of entry.

The parts that I got also had different switches which was completely annoying. The locker switches were different from the compressor switch and guess what? I tried to order the correct switch and NO ONE has them here in the US.

I looked at the hoses and fittings they are pretty generic brass fittings except for the tap fitting. This builds a little doubt for me anyway as to what exactly they mean by "leaking" a hose is a hose is a hose and so is a brass fitting and a compression fitting. Plumbing doesn't just leak if installed correctly. If the leak is at the solenoid that's a different story. Maybe a little more detail on what is leaking will help clarify. Shop here in Houston has installed several of these no problem, that's where I'm taking mine. Maybe the problem is they are used to installing ARB not TJM. These weren't around for a week. They been around in 100s for several years.

@shanester By the way anytime I hear any shop lean towards a product they sell in this case ARB they always, throw dirt at any other product just because they don't do them, sell them or are not used to installing them or the design is different than what they are used to. This is sounding to be very much the case.

Agreed. The shop that installed mine only had one issue. That was locating the correct pipe tap. Also of note: I have seen the air lines that come with the ARB lockers and the lines that come with the TJM kit are noticeably higher quality with thicker material. Everything else in the kit seems to be of equal quality between the two. Also, if anyone has trouble locating the different switches for the locker or compressor, Dirty parts here in LA has them.
