Front Locker $480
Rear Locker $592.50

I already have a compressor, but even if you had to buy one it's still a hell of a deal. From what I've read the TJM units seem to be pretty reliable.

Hmmm... I'm emailing TJM to see what the difference is. I really need a front locker but was going to go electronic. For $1,000 less though? Air it is.

Let me know what you find out

would this be an inexpensive way of addressing my 1999 weak front diff? (I think I'd be ok not setting it up for the locking function - at least for now).

Good question - I'm interested in knowing as well, as I just purchased a '98 LX470 which (I think) also has the weak front diff.

I went ahead and bought one for my front. I will see about having a local gear shop install and I'll work out the compressor (or not) myself. I had priced an elocker with installation at north of 2,000, and I'm hoping I might get out of this at about 1,000 less. (Makes my Scottish genes happy). Thanks for the heads up!

I went ahead and ordered the front. This is way too good of a deal to pass up, I already have the ARB twin compressor so all I would need is the solenoid. I'll stock it until I'm ready to install but I'm curious of the people buying it and getting it installed what the average cost of installing the locker is. Added insurance to the front diff for under 500 can't beat that!

I got an install quote from a MUD recommended shop of $250 each and that was with me taking the diffs apart myself and taking them in. I'm curious what others are paying as well.

I'm just planning on doing my own along with my steering rack and all my front end bushings. Figure the whole front end will be off, so may as well just do it all at once.
I love a good deal however, is the seller a us dealer and do they have the full tjm warranty?

I got a similar deal on ebay a couple months back $570 incl very fast shipping. I had the front locker 168PL22 and an ARB CKMA12 ($250 incl shipping) installed for $785. Everything the shop needed to perform the install parts wise was included between the locker and compressor. Except one VERY important thing. My TJM locker required a special pipe tap, that was pretty hard to find in the US. But rather common in Great Britain and India, maybe some other places. I think it was a BPT 19x1/4, if I remember correctly.

The locker and compressor combo have been great. I use the compressor all the time, not only to air up, but around the house for bike tires, basketballs etc. Very handy. The locker operates seamlessly. Flip the switch on and it engages almost instantly, flip it off and it disengages within a blink as long as the locker is not under load. I had it sitting on the counter in my garage for a week before the install, wow, what a nice piece! The construction quality is exact. After you see and feel the fragile OEM 2 or 4 pinion carrier and you see this, you will feel much more confident about the already amazing reliability of these vehicles.

Two days before I found the TJM locker, I was ready to purchase a Harrop E-locker, which I believe to be an awesome locker. Problem is that it was going to be about $2400 all in incl shipping and installation of the locker. I would still need a compressor for airing up (and installation of the compressor). I saved myself perhaps $1200, if you count the compressor. In researching all the few front locker options available for the LC100, I found a lot of interesting info. Most interesting of all is that TJM lockers have probably been around longer than the industry stalwart ARB air lockers. How so? TJM actually bought another company named after Jack McNamara . By talking via email with a few vendors in Australia, some told me that ARB lockers were actually a copy or were "inspired by" early versions of the "Jack Mac" locker (as they called it). If you speak with people down under about the TJM and "Jack Mac" lockers, they are very well regarded. As a matter of fact, I could not find even one first hand account of one of these lockers actually breaking. This was over a couple weeks of somewhat casual research and a few personal messages.
