Oh man. Yes please get out the torch. Think of that great viewer content. Gold.

Ok ok dont do that

Maybe that Asian lady arm wrench can help

Once again the voice of reason from behind the camera, "Doesn't the transmission need to be moved forward?".

Thanks for the latest episode!

You are going to need more weight on the front axle anyways, just move the transmission forward and deal with the top hat, drive shaft and whatever whatnot from there.

Don't chop up the fire wall....

Another vote for moving the engine/transmission mounts rather than cutting the firewall. Shouldn't be too hard to move the frame mounting points forward by an inch or so, maybe an inch and a half so things aren't super tight on the firewall. A decent driveline shop will make quick work of shortening the front and lengthening the rear drivelines.

Which coolant flange do you have? There's an aluminum one for manual transmission VW's, and a plastic one for automatic transmission VW's. The plastic one is lower profile, a bit shorter than the vacuum pump. You'll also want enough space to get a hose on the little coolant bleed nipple on the back of the cylinder head, just to the RH side of the vacuum pump.

When I did a TDI in a 40. I also moved the transmission forward. There was plenty of room left in front for the intercooler and an ac condenser. HTH

It’s Yotas 3rd Law: (Action - Reaction)

Whenever a modification exerts a force on a second object, the second object exerts a force of equal magnitude requiring another modification IOT equalize the direct modification on the first.

It’s science Bro….😎

Slight issue popped up… lost the battle, but hopefully not the war. Attempted to mount the TDi into the FJ40, and hit my first big hurdle. It didn’t fit. So I turn to you wizards, anyone have any ideas on how to tackle this issue?

Yeah, you’re on the money I think bro.

At least you had the Land Cruiser parts to support the gear boxes. I had to install the crossmember for my R2.8 and H55F/ split transfer case.

So the 60 crossmember obviously wasn’t made for a 40 series, some modification will occur. Anyone ever make one of these fit between an FJ40 frame rail? I’m thinking I’ll just make new “L” brackets and call it a day.

That looks like it should work out pretty good.

Probably a bit of trimming on each side as I move it forward, and make some new brackets, because I think modifying the 60 series ones would suck.

I had some gussets laying around and is how I solved the same problem when I installed the 5 spd. The are bolted to the inner frame. I meant to add tabs so they can be bolted to the frame bottom as well but never got around to it.

Perfect! Can you shoot me a DM with as many pictures as you feel comfortable sharing? Or ai could send you my cell number?

I’ll take some tonight. Can’t do it any sooner, I’m supposed to be working….well that’s what I tell my boss.
I’ll send pics of my other one too as I did something similar for the LS install.
Thanks for the info and photos bro.
