Sometimes you gotta make it hard. With the 2F and Holley Sniper running well, I decided it was a good time to swap the engine out for a VW TDI Diesel. Imagine a world where Germany and Japan team up?

Prepare the pitchforks, torches and lube. Im betting this will get ugly before it gets consensual. Also, selling a 2F engine and accessories… watch the episode. Let the hate flow through you.

 
Hey man, I just watched your you tube video and want to throw my hat in the ring on that 2F motor you’re selling! I have a ‘72 that’s got a 1F that’s a pretty good runner, but smokes like a bad habit. I’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to motor swap it. Could this be it? I’m giddy with excitement haha! Please let me know if it’s up for grabs, cause I’m all about it! I’m in Western Colorado and can always use a good excuse for a road trip and an adventure!

My wife and I just watched and there was so much screaming at the TV that the dog is scared. I know you’re selling the 2F for $2K. I counter, how much would you accept to leave it alone? I can get a GoFundYoAss website going to leave it alone. I love you in a hetero way and I’ve been watching you since episode 1. Listen to your wife and leave the 2F as is. Focus on other projects. Love you man, no homo, but love you man. You’re headed down a dark path and this is coming from a man that relaxes to Slayer.

Build Thread 'Meet Ivy, 1976 FJ40 w/VW TDI, 2.8 CRD, OM606'

My story starts out pretty much the same as a lot of people's I read on Mud... A guy had her on cl for what seemed like a fair price. I knew not nearly enough about what I should be looking at or what to look for. Advertised as "ran before it was parked a few years ago" and as being "stock and complete". Exchanged a few emails then a few phone calls. Made a handshake deal over the phone since he was 4.5 hours away. Talked a friend of mine into going to pick her up since I wasn't able to get off work at the time. This is what she looked like when she got to her new home...the garage...

Well, I'm measuring everything in whale penises now. This is awesome and I'll be watching as always. Tell you what, you and I are both swapping engines in our FJ40's. In the spirit of keeping each other motivated, I'm issuing a challenge to us both: You're up north and I'm down in L.A. so I challenge Project Wrong Way and Project Dumpster Fire to meet in the middle, in our running and driving FJ40's, for victory tacos one year from today. Are you in?
 
Don't add in any Italian parts, they will form an axis - try to rule the road - it will not end well.

Not being a purest, its my opinion "Make it yours". Time and money are yours to spend how you see fit and no matter what you can't take it with you when you get your ticket home.

i love my mercedes om617. it’s older and while the newer 606 has more potential i owned this already hence my decision to swap it. still in process but absolutely love diesels. the few vws i’ve read about seem to make their owners happy so what ever you do just go for it!
 
Sweet project! I'm a big proponent of TDI swaps, I've got about 45k miles on my ALH-swapped LJ78 Prado. If done right they'll put out plenty of power and still return decent mileage. Unfortunately I cut some corners on my swap originally, and am looking at redoing it with a different model TDI this spring.
 
For what is worth, I vote for your engine going to @KinkoThe40. Why? Because green '72s are the coolest of the cool.

Looking forward to this build: should be sweet. I had a 2005 Jetta TDI 5 speed wagon I commuted from Santa Fe to Denver with for years. Best car I ever owned. Over 300,000 miles without any problems. I still miss that car. Best snow car I ever owned.
 
I got a lot of flack when I decided to swap a TDi into my FJ40. In this episode I discuss the benefits, cost, and possibly blind myself around minute 4:30… Have a watch and follow along as I find the most difficult way to complete this build.
