They are just round trailer taillights. Cheap and east to replace if damaged. I welded metal pipe to the fame where the stock ones were (it had some big ugly square trailer lights on it when I got it) and used culking to hold them in. They are secure enough to stay in while driving and wheeling, but easy to get out to replace if I need to. They've worked well.

Krylon Pistachio is what I used. Very very close to spring green. :) Came out very nice overall.

I don't think my earlier post made it---but, I love the shift knob! Where did you get the Toyota motor emblem?

Would you be willing to take a few close up pics of your paint job? Maybe some spots you're unhappy with? I'm considering doing my own rattle can job soon.

Yeah, I try to get some pictures of it close up. I'll try to show the spots I wasn't happy with and the parts that came out great (which is most of it).

I found the logo for the shift knob online, and printed it out on paper, then glued that between some 1" round glass that I found at a craft store. Then countersunk and glued the whole thing in. The Toyota Motors logo I just found online and saved the image, resized it to 1" and printed it on heavy quality paper.

More importantly, when are you getting the rims/hub caps and widening them? THAT is gonna look slick with that new paint. Love that green, I must say. Much nicer looking than the old grabber orange.

Well, found out this week I'm going to be without income of any kind for the next couple weeks at least... so I had to put the cruiser funds back into my bank account to make sure I have the bills paid. Pisses me off but it's temporary and I think having a house is slightly more important then having sweet cruiser wheels and seats.

Hopefully no longer then 3 weeks or a month at most though. Plan is still going forward, just slightly delayed until I have income again.

Just wanted to let you know want a great job you're doing. The 40 is looking awesome.

Sounds like you have your head screwed on right, too. Family First!

Bugger. I hope it resolves quickly.

Gah... tonight really reinforced that I want to ditch the V8. I've been going back and forth with it for the last few weeks. I did the V8 swap in 2006, so it's only a few years old... seems crazy to pull a brand new motor and replace it. But man, I'm so sick of that thing.

In the last year it's got a new intake gasket, new carb, new HEI distributor, new plugs, wires. Damn thing will still not run right. I thought I had it dialed finally this week. I've been driving it and it seemed to finally be happy again. Then tonight we drove down to Sacramento and back (maybe 100 miles round trip) and it started loading up and getting a minor miss when cruising in the first 1/3 of the throttle. Freeway speed and stop light to stop light were fine, but just moving along with little throttle it just would load up and then miss a little.

It just reinforced how much I hate that engine. Also, realizing that drivng it normally I never even get into the powerband of the motor. Yeah, it's fun to drive a v8, but it's not what I want or need in my cruiser.

But.. man it was a nice night for a topless drive. :)

I love driving a 2F Cruiser. There is just something about that straight 6 that you can't beat in my opinion.

Sorry to hear about your frustration; I know how that can feel.

You doin' ok there Josh? ;)

My mind is elsewhere...I thought I hit edit but hit quote...... I need to go camping, work is killing me.

Wow, so... had a totally unexpected thing happen today, and I might be changing the game plan for the cruiser. Long story short, a lot more funds just opened up for the cruiser.

Now suddenly I'm thinking about doing the drivetrain changes first, and the seats and wheels later on. My reasoning is... I keep having issues with the V8 that keep me from being able to wheel it... and my wheels and tires are fine right now. I will need tires next year so that makes sense to replace the wheels then anyway.

I am still thinking about doing it in stages, simply because I can't afford to do it all at once, but my thinking right now is to buy a good running late model 2F, and the 5 speed, and split case. Get it installed like that. Start collecting the 3FE parts and do that at a later date, but I think the 2F 5 speed will be done in the next few months. My hope is that I can sell the V8/sm420 combo for enough cash to buy some 3FE parts... but I'm trying to minimize my down time.

So... couple o new questions.

H55 price with the shifter was quoted to me today at about $3200. There has to be a better price then that... I understand there are a few other sources from here that can help.. my searches haven't been super helpful with that.

Also, split case is from a 62? Or do 60's have them too? What years of case am I looking for? Anything to look out for?

And... 4 speed bellhousing/flywheel work fine with the 5 speed correct?

I think that's all for now...

I bought a H55F from Lowe Toyota last year for about $1k less than your quote, but this did not include the shifter.

Look for a case from a 85-87 FJ60 if you want manual 4WD shifting, the FJ62 cases are manual shift for H-L but vacuum for 4WD. You will need a case that can accept the oiler nipple for the 5th gear. A later FJ60 t-case will have to have one of the pass-through bolt holes plugged.

Your BH and flywheel will work with the 5 speed.

Perfect. Thank you. Sounds pretty straight forward. I will check and see if shipping will be a killer on the trans. I'd like to see if I can get a cheaper online quote and have the dealership match it.. but I don't know if that's even an option. I think I've got a line on a motor and tcase already.... this is going to be exciting.

you can buy the shifter from Georg (orangefj45)

Ha ha.. love it.

Got some wheels. Not going to do anything with them until I'm ready for new tires, but I have some stock wheels. I was sure to get some ugly rusty ones too that no one doing a restore will be sad about me chopping up. The centers are pretty, but the hoops are... well, done.
