Send me the old s*** when your done with it!
Ha, if there's one thing this summer has cemented in my brain, it's that it's time to find readily available options for the worn out toyota s*** that's been great for 40 years but is now becoming a pain in the snapper.

Alternators are just an accessory.

If I can order one off amazon for under 200 bucks I'd rather do that than take a greasy piece of s*** to a shop in the hopes that there's still an old guy there who can cobble s*** together.

Basic s***, two brushes, armature, some field coils and a few diodes. You should see what I stare at in a day.

Saturdays power outage wiped out this one.

Haha, yep basic s***, but unless you can find a guy to whittle 24v alternator parts out of tree stump, they ain't available and it's a paper weight.

I doubt 12v ones are far behind. I still might drop it off at a local shop but I doubt anyone will fix it cheaper than I can buy something new and higher output. :meh:

I can get brushes and diodes for them. As for the internal regulator I have no idea if it’s available but here’s some numbers
Alt 12v internal voltage regulator 27700-38100
Alt 12v internal voltage regulator remanufactured 27700-38100
12v Alt Brush kit 27373-57070

All I’m saying is throw me the old s*** when your done with it ;) starters too I can make them sing!

Yeah because I clearly throw things away often

For now it's on battery power until the 60 is alive again.

One cruiser down at a time.

Looks a bit like this one that I finally a replacement for. I’ve been waiting for parts for months. Then it took three weeks to get the company names and phone numbers to program it. People couldn’t understand 15 characters including spaces. 15, not 22, not 16, only 15.

Suspect I'll be needing a 12v bj60 alternator. 83 ish

Mine seems to have a dead short. Haven't looked inside it yet to see if it's something silly, but figure I should start the search.

If the 60 was rolling I'd be looking at adapting new options, but with swmbo a little paranoid about fires I'm trying to leave her car at home as much as I can.

Had to do a jump start down the big hill at work last night and haul ass home before it got dark with no lights or battery.

Guess it's a good thing I didn't bring it down to Victoria the other day...

There is one on F-book that's been there quite a while. Buddy wants $400, but it's also been for sale for ages. Offer him $40. :D I know you don't do f-book, so could try to get a cell if you're interested.

400??

You'd think a certain superfan of weak Toyota alternators would beat me to that. :flipoff2:

I did look into this a bit further. There is an 80A version of that alternator that is Toyota part number 27020-68140. Seems to work on 3B/13BT and some of the 2H/12HT motors from the sounds of it. Bosch makes it and it's called BXD1336N. I saw that one for sale in various places in OZ for as low as $300AUD. If you can find someone that would ship it for a reasonable price, it would probably be a good option. When I had my old alternator rebuilt at Brian Roberts it was $300CAD, and still 55A. So to spend $300 and get an 80A brand new one would be nice. Genuine Bosch Alternator BXD1336N Landcruiser HJ60 HJ75 4.0L Diesel 2H 1980-1990 - https://www.prestigeautoparts.com.au/~30488

Careful...don't let Bradford see this, he'll give you an old fashioned Amish shunning.

I've definitely been considering those bosch ones along with the isuzu npr ones

Bosch will probably be close to 500 bucks by the time it's here (100 shipping, 20% tax/duty)

So, pretty much twice money, over the npr, but less farting around to make it work and probably 2x the quality.

One would hope...

Well this isn't exactly a glowing recommendation of the bosch stuff...

Makes me think the DB amazon version is probably not much worse.
