Guys, I have a buddy that has a CJ that was unable to bring it for its maiden voyage on my "annual guys weekend" URE trip a few weeks ago, because his wife's grandfather passed away. He is dying to take it out before the trails close this year and this is the only time I can make it to ride with him (obviously, he doesn't want to do it alone).
Since we had a couple of Discos at the spring N meets S, I thought I would throw this out there for feedback to see if you guys mind him running with us. We could get a site at Arrowhead if room @ Badin Group camp is tight. He is a very cool guy and good friend of mine. I told him if it does work out, we would give him a lot of hell since he would be in a Heep.
Anyway, let me know how you all feel about it and don't be shy if you are opposed.
someone loan him a bezel for the weekend and make sure he straps it on right
i doubt anyone would have a problem and we are all out to have a good time on the trail. i just say we keep the organization, trail leaders, and coordinations cruiser (UC/ONSC) based this time. besides we gotta show him the light somehow, right?
exactly. I owned a Cj at one time too. We all gotta start somewhere. We can't convert him by being a bunch of A-Holes either. We'll just have to show him what the cruiser community is all about. I've got a buddy with a nice Tj that I've been trying to get down here for a trip too. Maybe I can get him down to make this ride also.
Sweet. I'm no elitist myself, but I no big Heep fan either. But hell, they are everywhere. We can choose our friends, but we can't choose our friend's rides
I like your attitude Eric! Can't wait to meet you and others I have not yet had the chance.
Just make sure the heep and the discos bring spare parts! My last two rides with heeps resulted in broken axles....and no spares on hand.
I may be able to make this one, but I need the wife's permission since I've been out of pocket so many weekends already. Doh!
I would definately love to be there, provided I can finish the 40 in time. I still need to finish the C&T on the front, the front half of the SOA, the Saginaw PS conversion, weld on the front shock mounts and get new shocks, and get both driveshafts lengthened!! Guess I better get moving, huh?!!
Unless Shearon Harris has a meltdown and I am nuked, I am a definite for this one! My trip to Europe got postponed until January, I've missed Cullowhee twice the past few weekends, we're all moved in, and I'm sure my wife will be delighted to have me away.
I have a question for those more experienced. I have an FJ Cruiser, and I have yet to take it off-road. I was partly waiting until I can get some all terrain tires on steelies. Right now I have 20" BBS rims with summer tires. (I know... I like big rims, and I like mud tires... and lifts... )
Question, would this trail run be ok to try with my wheel/tire setup? Also, I don't have any sliders yet. Should I sit this one out, and wait till I can get some hiking boots for the FJ?
the stock part wouldnt bother me, yes sliders would be nice but not necessary and we could guide you to the trails that would be best suited to your ride, BUT the 20'' wheels would have me worried sick. A) im sure they are spendy B) it doesnt give you much sidewall to allow for any airing down or really any cushion before you damage the wheel on a rock. If you still wanna come out and meet the group and see some of the other rigs and setups im sure there are a couple open passenger seats somewhere and always great company around the campfire. ( i have tires if you can find some 16'' rims by then )
As of right now things look good to be able to make the trip. Unfortunately I wont be able to camp but would like to get up there early saturday and spend most of the day with everyone. What time does everyone usually get started on Saturday morning if I was to meet at the campsite?
