I bought a used 2006 alternator and was wondering what is the best way to clean these without getting the internals messed up with harsh chemicals. Any ideas?

not trying to take this thread off in a tangent, but in the lexus forum, especially the LS400 cars, seems there is an issue with the PS system leaking fluid onto the alternator. Kind of like what problem we have with our trucks.

When they replace or fix the alternator, they use a plastic milk carton to cut and make a shield to cover the top of the alternator.

Sounds like a good safety net just in case you replace with a new alternator and at some point your PS system leaks fluid, it will not drip into the alternator.

Just FYI

Photoman could you maybe update what your asking for these brackets. Or is this a whole kit? I read this whole thread a few days ago but I musta missed it. I am slow though so it might just be that. Thanks

I just ordered the bracket and connector from Bill a couple of weeks ago. The two pieces shipped cost $87.70.

I am very happy with the upgrade and it was money well spent.

I understand that harsh fluids will damage an alternator, what I am looking for is what I can use to clean my new "used" alternator while I still have it out of the rig. It is not exactly clean and easier to clean out of the vehicle

thanks mmm63 :D

I never changed the bracket price so it is still the same from when the thread started. That price that mmm635 mentioned gets you the bracket and the Toyota electrical connector and shipping. The USPS shipping price is the only thing that has increased.
What you need then is either a Toyota part #27060-0F040 130 amp or a Toyota part# 27060-0F050 150 amp alternator. The 2003-2007 Toyota Tundra had up to the 130 amp. The Toyota Sequoia had a 130 amp or a 150 amp. In addition to take full advantage of the upgrade you need some larger wire to run from the alternator to battery positive and to run a larger ground from battery negative to the engine block. The positive wire should have a fuse in the line. So alternator, wire, fuse, and the time to do it. :)

That is a tough one. The case seems to be made of pot metal. Hopefully someone can help you come up with something.

I would like to publicly thank ERG80 for making a donation in my name to the BRC. That was very kind of you. There sure are many nice people in the cruiser community.

Photoman, Thanks for the explanation it clears up alot. :D

AzTony, IIRC there is a cleaning spray that is made to clean electrical components at any parts store. Also, I have heard people say that you can use non detergent brake cleaner spray. I have never personally used these so I cannot say if they will adversely effect anything or not. Hopefully someone here will chime in if I'm wrong. With a better suggestion. Good Luck

130 amp conversion Real time help

Would anyone have the photo/diagram for the electrical connection for Photoman's alternator conversion. I need to wire the three wire to the four wire connector.

Thanks

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a 93 from the FSM? I have 2 batteries, an isolator and an aftermarket alarm that the PO had installed. I got to see what I am dealing with before I make any wiring changes. Thanks

is this kit still being offered?

Has anyone gotten rid of the fusible links? I am curious what others have done and how it turned out. Does anyone have the specs on what fuse ratings are required to replace these? Pics are nice!!

FWIW the Sequoia and Tundra 130A and 150A alternator rigs use the 140A Fusible Link...which is the same size on our 100's. It defies logic to me but then again who am I to argue with the likes of the Toyota design engineers ;)

Interesting, does the 140A cover all three fusible links?

I don't know what amp rating fusible link the 80 uses. But 100's et al Toyotas use the 140A fusible link. All of the Sequoia and Tundra alternators up through 150A use the 140A fusible link as OEM.

I just think its odd Toyota didn't up the FL with the 130A and 150A alternators.

That's a thought: use the FL from a Sequoia or Tundra (along with upgraded wiring to alternator of course) instead of a Bussman fuse. FL's are definitely cheaper (like ~$13) and would avoid the hassle of locating/mounting a fuse block. I don't know what the connector looks like on a Sequoia/Tundra FL and if it's adaptable to this application, but it's worth checking into.

Just to be clear: you'd still want to keep the OEM FL's in place to protect the wiring harness. I'm just talking about using a Sequoia/Tundra FL in place of the new fuse as described in previous posts in this thread.

this is a great mod IMHO but its a lot of work considering you can just go to Welcome to Hi-Ampsalternator.com they sell an alt for the 93-97 LC/LX450 that makes 165Amps and it bolts in with stock mounts and plugs into stock wire harness. You wont see it listed on there web site but if you follow the link to there ebay store you'll find it there. looks like there on sale right now as well for 173.50 shipped.

There's debate whether or not the higher output alternators from the likes of Mean Green, etc. actually put out what they say they put out. Anyone tested these?
