Anyone making these brackets? If not is a templet available?

Thanks,

I'm still making them. PM me or use the address in post 5 if you are interested in one or if you have any questions.

Bill, off topic but i have been on this board for years and you STILL have never shown your completed rig!!! Last time i checked you were making dual snorkels!

Has it been years already? There sure is and have been a lot of nice people come and go here. Many thanks to all those that take the time to contribute to this board and that have helped me and others.
Ok here are a couple of pictures of where I camped for a few days when the cruiser was completed up to 2001. :)
I do DD a 1993 now; you know the ones with the funny transmission that you can grow to love.

Just installed the 150amp alternator, thanks to American Toyota for the discount...

I removed the battery box and unbolted the power steering reservoir to get room for the install.

I used the timing cover bolt and nut with a 14mm 3/8" drive socket to "press" the bushing out of the bracket for the alternator clearance. Installed the bottom bracket first, put the belts on the alternator pulley, and got the top mount in and bolted everything together. The OEM wiring connector broke apart so if for some reason I wanted to go back to the OEM alternator I would need to get a replacement 3-wire electrical plug. The wires inserted without any problems and luckily I pinned the wires properly.

Charges at 13.5v with dual batteries, the OEM alternator went out and either didn't charge or overcharged at 14.5v. So this was a good time to upgrade. The only down side is if I need to replace the belts on the trail, but will get spares using the Gates belt listed in the thread that are a tad longer as spares.

THat is the hard part on this swap... the belts!! I forgot about it until i was rebuilding my motor and went to put this all back on and cursed up a storm trying to get the belts on!!

It has been too long since I finished my HG replacement/engine overhaul/alternator upgrade...

I am putting together the travelin'toolkit and realized that in addition to the standard Toyota 8/10/12/14/15/17/19 (or 10/12/14/17) sockets/wrenches I will need a couple more sizes to attack the new alternator with the Photoman bracket.

There is an adjustment arm lockdown bolt, a tension adjustment bolt and the pivot bolt and nut.

Anyone know the sizes? I vaguely remember a 13mm, 16mm(actually 5/8?) and 17mm (actually 11/16?) . Any definitive opinions? Great upgrade, by the way, and Photoman is beyond nice to deal with...

The tensioning bolt and the sliding bar bolt are 13mm. The big bolt head is 16mm and the nut is 17mm.

Because the bracket I received came with SAE hardware I took a note of what to put in my toolbox. I use a 1/2" swivel head gear wrench, 5/8" socket with a short extension, and a 13mm socket or gear wrench for the tensioner bolt. HTH

The little bushing in the stock top alternator mount has been causing some difficulty for some folks to get to move when they install their new alternator. I made a little bushing puller and now include one with each bracket. Hopefully it will make things simpler.

Bill,

Another excellent design. I could have used that on my install. It will definately make that part very easy..

Ok folks, sorry to bring this up again, I have finally got around to doing this and have few questions from the pictures below:

1. Do I cut off the wire pointed in blue arrows?

2. Do I connect the OEM alter connector (pointed with red arrow) back in "B" Terminal with my new alternator cable that has a new 200 amp fuse inline connected to the '+' terminal of the battery?

3. Do I leave the AM1 box as shown in the picture and connect it back to '+' terminal?

Appreciate the help

Hi and thanks for this great post, I've learned a lot reading but its funny how much of the information here is in the FSM too. I'd be lying to you if I said I read the entire post, so my apologies if this question is redundant.

If you are replacing your stock Alternator with one built for a different Toyota and adapting it to work in your ride, why not use and/or adapt the wiring harness built from the donor auto?

Meaning -- If you pull a high output Alternator from a different Toyota Truck/SUV, why not take the alternator wire harness too and adapt it for your TLC?

My Sequoia alternator came with offcuts, but many will not.

The kit i got from photoman includes the new connector, with the idea to pull the contacts out of the old one and install them in the new one. Which seems reasonable to me.
