Great work sbman, This Is a very smart analysis for a smooth, cleam alarm Install. I have avoided this project just for that reason, Its to Invasive the way Its usually performed. I love reading posts like this sbman, Thank you for all the exacting work and your contribution to the members. !!!!! :)

The connector on the RS3000 harness has the number: 10992. The mating connector that was soldered onto the RS3000 cpu unit is 10993.

You just add 90980- to the beginning of those numbers and that becomes the Toyota part number. The female housing (RS3000 side) comes up as available from the Car Parts Web Store for $5.67 (90980-10993,HOUSING, CONNECTOR F), but also shows up as a discontinued part on a dealer's web site. The part number of the pig tail connectors that go with this housing are 82998-12380 (large connectors in the corners of the housing) and 82998-12340 (small connectors), and you can get these from any Toyota dealer (usually a special order through).

The EWD I am using is the Birfmark one from here: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/1996-fsm-and-ewd/

I tried following that link, but got an error:
IH8MUD Forum - Error
The controller XenForo_ControllerPublic_Thread does not define an action called 1996FsmAndEwd.

Not sure if this is an ID10T error caused by operator challenges, or if there's actually an issue with the link. Further searching indicates that Birfmark's link may have in fact died. Looks like someone else has shared the documents here:
1996 FSM and EWD

interesting mod, I personally really like my stock alarm / key fob setup. I purchased a new fob from toyota and have not had a problem in years. They are expensive but much better than the aftermarket ones. I went through the aftermarket ones like every couple months.

There is one thing I can't stand about the alarm system. I hate when the system "self arms" itself. I may be working on the car or whatever and if I close all the doors for a sec the system self arms and then the alarm goes off when I open a door.

Does anyone know how to disarm this without changing anything else?

Just like 1973Guppie pointed out, I put my stock alarm system in valet mode and just use it as a remote door lock / unlock. Works better than good. The thing has some awesome range!

yeah I need to do this, I am guessing after looking at the instructions you can also turn off the "passive arming" that is so annoying to me.....

The fun part about the factory system is that the ignition is disabled by default. The RS3000 has to send a signal to the ignition cut relay in order for your vehicle to start. I didn't get far enough in to know how to disable the relay without removing it though, I removed the ignition cut relay.

I just wish I could fix my rs3000, it refuses to work correctly and I have exhausted my best efforts trying to sort it out, it was all I needed but hey what ya gonna do.........

somebody should just sell RS3000 to viper harnesses to make the entire thing plug and play

It was $80 Labor to have a Viper Installed.
They soldered all the connections.

The range and reliability blow the 80's Fujitsu Ten Tech out of the water.

I see no reason to build a ship in a bottle here....but carry on.

So I just did this and the remote install and unlock/lock works great. BUT I won't start...what does this 11 pin T-connection look like? Is it the wires from the back of the key?

Figured this out...on my '97 the '11-pin' connector is 12 and it is in the driver's kick panel along with a glass break sensor, 4 wires going to the red flashing dash light and sound sensor(?), wires going to a relay that controls a large black/white wire that when unplugged and by-passed the LX could start again. There were 2 more wires that went to the red alarm under the hood by the washer diverter. The rest of the wires went along the door sill to the RS3000. So now I have remote lock/unlock from more the 3 inches away, no more auto lock on start, and no more rando beeping from little red alarm thing under hood. Now I have to do Joon in AZ :bounce::clap:

Pretty sure I found a 1997 LX450 EWD. It matches the descriptions of the RS3000 ECU and harness references and validates @orttauq's post above regarding the location of the 12 pin connector in the driver's kick panel. I couldn't find many differences between this and my 1996 LC EWD except the 1997 version referenced all the theft prevention pieces.

There are indeed some differences between the 1997 LX450 EWD you graciously provided and the official 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser EWD. For example, the LX450 EWD has two chapters on Air Conditioning, one on "automatic" A/C and one on "manual" A/C. And the "Position of Parts" pages for the engine compartment and instrument panel differ in some minor ways. I'm sure there are other minor differences too, but finding them all would take going through the diagrams carefully page by page. Nevertheless, I think you've uncovered an important document, so thanks! It's too bad the PDFs of these EWDs do not include the Toyota publication numbers on some page so we wouldn't have to look for subtle differences just based on different file names. The 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser EWDs I have (2 similar printed versions -- one clearly a full color dealer Toyota FSM that I got as a special gift from @beno and one that I bought years ago from the USA 1-800 Toyota service manual people -- plus an on-line PDF identical to these) are labelled as "For USA Pub. No. EWD282U." I strongly suspect the Lexus EWD will have a different pub number.

Also, there are differences in the physical wiring harnesses between the FZJ80 and LX450 that are not documented in either the Toyota EWD or the Lexus EWD. For example, FZJ80's have connectors underneath the center console for seat heater switches while the Lexus does not. And I've observed some of the wire colors are also different.

Anyway, good find on the EWD and Lexus owners should definitely take note!
