I have just made the ultimate tool roll purchase!

I was searching around the Internet yesterday and got bored so I thought I would do a needle in the haystack search and went to Kijiji and went to the auto parts section and looked for any ads with the word "toyota" in them.

Usually when I do this I get a lot of results for Toyota parts that are not what I am looking for, but yesterday was my lucky day!

After a page of two filtering through modern Toyota parts I come accross an add for a "Vintage Toyota Tool Set" The title sounds interesting, but I don't have my hopes up as I click on the link. To my surprise, this is what I find...Right in my hometown! Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Who woulda thunk it!

According to the poster, he found it in a basement and thinks it has been there since at least 1982. It is unbelievable that even the inspection tags are still present.

Needless to say I called the guy up and instantly sealed the deal with him. Unfortunately, I am working out of town right now so my sife had to pick it up and I only have the images he posted, but soon my wife will send some more photos.

I'm still in shock!

Bugger! That is sweet. Mind telling us what you paid?

I Feel a Bit Guilty

I don't really want to say how much I paid, but let's just say I got a good deal compared to the $1000 set that just sold on Ebay.

Basically the guy didn't know exactly what he had. He had obviously done a bit of Ebay research, but not enough. I think he was happy with the price and I certainly was happy with it.

Sweet! I do believe that's a 1971-72 kit. All the pouches at the bottom, canvas bag with attached canvas facing around the outside edges, no plastic. Looks just like mine only a lot less mileage.

I appreciate you posting the pics. Mine was lacking the screw drivers straight from the factory and I've always wondered what they looked like; I assumed they were wood handled but was never positive. Great find!

:hhmm:

I think that may be one of the fake sets that have been coming out of China .....

IKID! :grinpimp:

Nice find!

What you want to bet that at least 250 Mudders logged into eBay and did a seach on "Toyota" since 3:54 this afternoon?

congratulations on your deal

You inspired me, also started searching after reading this thread.
Found this one for just a few dollars in Australia :)
Not exactly the year for my 84 Troopy but just nice to have

Update

Just got back into town from work and I have taken detailed pictures of all the tools and will post each tool in the posts following.

It looks like this tool set was never used. It is is in MINT condition. I am going to say I am 99% sure it came with a Canadian vehicle since it appears to have been in storage in Northern Alberta most or all of it's life. Only reason why I mention this is just in case there is a difference between American andCanadian tool sets. As for what model of vehicle...don't know.

OK, here goes!

Screwdrivers

Here are the screwdrivers.

All screwedrives have "TOYOTA MOTOR JAPAN" on the silver part. There is no other writing on the handles.

The wooden handles are grooved.

All three screwdrivers are bagged and the top of the bag folded over and the inspection tag (not a sticker) is folded over with the bag and stapled on. The philips screwdriver has lost it's inspection tag, but you can see where it was stapled on.

Spark Plug Wrench

The writing on the spark plug wrench is continuous around the circumference of the tool. In the pic I have it on two lines.

One of the three tools that did not have a bag. Not sure if it was supposed to have one. I'm guessing it probably did.

Wrenches

There are 5 wrenches, 8/10, 10/12, 12/14, 14/17 & 19/22. They are indented and appear to have "TOYOTA MOTOR" and the size on one side and "NICKEL CHROME VANADIUM" on the other.

The 19/22 has "JAPAN 52" after the "NICKEL CHROME VANADIUM". Not sure if the others have this number as it is hard to see with them in the plastic.

Hinge side of clip has "KTC" in an ovel onthe left of the hinge and "M.PAT." to the right with "NO. 422209" below the "M.PAT."

Second picture shows the inspection sticker.

Angle Wrench

Picture of both sides of the angle wrench.

The type of plastic that this bag is made of is different from the others; it is "crisper" and not as clear as the others.
