I say go for the goat option. They'll keep kids off the property too. Stake em down with a 30-40 foot (inedible) line and he'll make good on whatever is above ground.
Been there done that... the first time they get out and devour your front yard we will all be having BBQ,,, or the when you have to put up with the blood curdling screams from them when the local dogs/coyotes figure out they are easy targets.....at 3 am...then there is the fun if you get billys and they are pissing on their beards stinking to high heaven.. did I mention the Billys like to suck themselves too... nice! always when we had children visiting...
The good side is I know how to geld a billy goat and can help you do it.
The times we paid a vet to do it he never used any anesthetics... tied the goat to a fence post, picked him up by his tail, used a razor to slice open the scrotum, yanked the testicle out and asked me if I wanted it.. I guess my look of horror the first time told him I was from the city...
Sprayed it with some antibiotic on it and moved to the next animal...
A neighbor was just telling me goats have gotten very expensive... they paid almost $200 for a registered Boer.. I used to see them go for 35$..
About mowers, I bought a $3-4k mower from the Deere dealership, we had to take it back over and over and over again, until they broke the front bumper and blamed it on us, then charged me MSRP for the friggin thing....and denied they could have broken it.
This mower had the 18hp? Kawasaki 2 cylinder in it. First the carb went bad, (they replaced) then we bent the pushrods 2-3 times, they blamed our gas. WTF? I told them they were full of it and were just waiting us out of the warranty.
I own a kubota tractor, best thing I have EVER bought. That green paint sure is expensive to buy, repair and own. Never again.
I hear good things about the Husqvarna zero turns they sell locally for around 2500$.
