I have an electric power steering setup that came off my 1984 BJ42. It is marked as a direct fit for 1981 and newer trucks, but I imagine it could be easily adapted to earlier models with a little ingenuity. This one is for a LHD application.

It is a nice little kit. I drove the truck for a while and it really does provide good assist. It is self-contained and very easy to install. No welding, no modifications other than just some wiring and removing your existing steering column.

Copying/borrowing some language from the City Racer Website, who offers these kits new (see link below for their website).

Electric Power Steering for '73 and later Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 - https://www.cityracerllc.com/products/electric-power-steering-for-toyota-land-cruiser-fj40

A complete kit to convert your Land Cruiser FJ40 to electric power steering. Developed by EZ Electric Power Steering using components produced by Koyo and NSK, both made in Japan and affiliated with Toyota.

Compatible with all 40 Series variants (FJ4*, BJ4*, HJ4*). Available for 12V or 24V, LHD or RHD vehicles.

Benefits:
  1. Non-intrusive installation. Replace the steering column with the EZ unit. You retain everything from the manual steering box onward. Works with stock alternator and battery
  2. Complete, self-contained kit. No fabrication, no welding, no chasing down parts in junk yards
  3. Built in safety features.
  4. ECU controlled, load sensitive feedback. Quick response, never any hesitation
  5. Silent operation
  6. Adjust the level of assist with a potentiometer.
  7. Proven reliability. No pump, no belt, no hoses, no leaks
  8. Reduced impact on gas mileage and horsepower usage compared to conventional power steering.
  9. In the unlikely event you lose power, you'll revert back to your original manual steering. Because your original steering box is retained, your car will drive as it does today with manual steering.
  10. In contrast, when hydraulic power steering fails, the car can become difficult to steer.
They seem to retail new for about $1800. Asking $900 O.B.O. plus shipping from Austin, TX (where the kit is at the moment)

Great seller and great price, have this exact unit on my BJ45 and love it. If I didn’t have one already for my 40 I’d buy it!

Should add I have over twice the asking price in mine!

I want this. Just not sure I can justify it with other needs. Is it the 3 or 4 hole for the inside mounting plate?
