Pressure washed the underside today in preparation for applying Lizardskin

Noticed I have a nice little water leak in the back of the 100 over the holiday's with all this rain. I've isolated it to the rear weather stripping. Anyone have a good source for discounted OEM parts locally I could order a new seal from?

Also check the high mount stop light. It is a primary source for leaks on 100s and can very often appear to be the rear hatch weatherstripping. The only way to verify it is to completely strip the hatch of all the plastic and look closely.

Good call. I actually pulled the 3rd brake light a few weeks ago and sealed it up good with silicone in an attempt to fix this but now that the interior is torn apart it's pretty clear the water is coming from the seal.

Should have a new one here tomorrow so I can get interior back together.

Did some grinding, discovered some gaps, filled them in using Lincoln wire, grinded... Repeat x3

Then once decent I applied some primer to keep it from rusting until I can tidy it up a bit more.

I'm not entirely thrilled but a definite improvement. Just annoyed with how tedious and time consuming this is. Can't even imagine how many hours the quarters will take. Yikes.

After applying the primer was when the blemishes were more apparent. Either way, glad I took the plunge, cause I have about twenty other patches to do over time...

Ok guys, this ain't pretty but hopefully it will be functional once all ground down...

Pls remember today marks many first-time milestones...
- 1st time using a cutoff wheel
- 1st time slicing into a vehicle
- 1st time welding... Finally tried out my HF flux core welder( bought it 2.5 yrs ago but too chicken, and copper spoon, magnets etc
- 1st time burning through sheet metal and attempting fill in the hole with bead

Unfortunately I couldn't find any Lincoln flux core wire at Home Depot, so I did this hack job using all HF products. Hopefully this will turn out half-way decent tomorrow after using my grinder for the first time!

I was frightened out of my mind the first time I pulled the trigger. Was pretty nervous the auto dimming helmet from HF would not be reliable... Also the only welding I've ever seen is on YouTube.

Man I'm so pumped and optimistic now, hopefully this will turn out okay. Hopefully more to come in the near future!

Bought a set of Tundra Rock Warrior wheels from eBay that I'm going to remove the rings and refinish for use on the Hundy. They look a bit rough right now but that won't last long

Here's my practice attempt at fabbing up a rough quarter panel patch for the 40.

If I go down this route using this patch, I'll need to form the metal a bit more on the bottom and weld up the tabs to make the lip a bit cleaner.

Overall I'm happy with the curve, and the basic shape. Bending the metal to get the right curve was pretty tough given the strength of the 18g metal but I'm pretty close.

As you can see I found a huge rust hole behind my rear reflector... I chuckled thinking about the devastation that @lowtops felt when he removed his and found a pinhole patch. Just a stark reminder of how pristine his 40 is versus my bad buying decision. Well I'm stuck with this pup, and there's only one way out of this hole. Cut, weld, grind, repeat....and repeat, and repeat again.

I guess I'll attempt a rear sill horn soon.

I'm not sure pristine is the word I would use to describe my 40. It really needs a rear sill and if I were to grind away the paint and bondo it would probably resemble yours.

Kudos to you for jumping in and tackling such a big job.

Over the last three days the Turdle got fresh knuckles. Nathan helped me quite a bit. I'm thankful to have a parts washer. These were the nastiest, grimiest parts I've ever seen. The ancient mix of 80/90, bearing grease, mud and sand was set up like road tar. Yuck!

Started on the wheel refinishing project today. Just started with one as a test. Pulled the fake beadlock ring off, sanded it down, cleaned it again and finally a fresh coat of graphite paint. Pretty stoked about the result now to just finish 3 more!

That looks pretty slick. now you gonna powdercoat those beauty rings some hideous color for fun ?

Kurt did pink camo and jrmudder and Eric have claimed orange already.

Lime green? Anodize purple?

i tested the graphite on the 80 and liked the color on the wheel a lot but not so much on the truck. I think it will look great with the darker gray.

Haha! No beauty rings going back on, running the wheels sans rings. I did put the bolts back in for a more finished look.

Main reason for switching to these is tire size and brand availability over the 18s that are on the truck now. Planning on wrapping them in a set of KO2s for daily driver usage and keeping the Nitto MTs and Steelies for trail duty.

The Pick-n-pull had two 4Runners in inventory, but they'd been so picked and pulled, that they were barely identifiable as runners. Anyway, no driveshaft for me so over the holiday break this was my wrenching:
