the only way to track a garage door, high and tight

Got another LM7 today. Came out of a 2004 Suburban with 201K miles. Suburban had very clearly coke off the road because of getting rear ended. Car was well maintained and the engine looks good. No sludge and exhaust ports all look good.

Had to swap the intake off an earlier motor in the junkyard so it would be DBC then the chain hoist failed and dropped the motor 6’. You could say the oil pan passes drop test standards. The fan did not. So then swapped the water pump in the junkyard too. Then discovered the engine had a differnt PS pump too because it was hydro boost. So swapped the PS and alternator bracket all together.

So in the end we used the long block out of the 04 Suburban and scavenged all the other parts off an older one.

When we first got to the yard we stumbled across an untouched 6.0. Came real close to getting it but decided I didn’t need any more power and any worse fuel economy. And it had 350K+ miles.

@40LandCruising Why didn't you just buy the entire donor truck? Looks better than most of your junk does after a few months!
You got a point! Was pre dented so I wouldn’t have to care either!

Wrenching around with Knuckle rebuild on the 80, came across this tool. Used for the first time today, it works like magic pumping out grease, no more relying on my little T-rex arms to get the grease out.

Hook it up to a drill/driver and post video results! I want to see what 8k RPM grease gun output looks like!

There are a few on YouTube already, but here is mine, just a few seconds on the slower speed setting.

Thanks for this. I am disappointed however as you didn't "make it rain" grease (as the kids say). That merits another video!

This marks 2 serpentine belts in 2 drives. Was hoping the first one was just because of the ancient cracked belt but looks like something more is at hand. Wondering if I have a sharp pulley wearing the belts. Might also have a mid alignment somehow. Going to do some more investigating.

Did you fix the bent harmonic balancer? Or did it turn out not to be bent?

Pulley alignment is pretty much the only thing that can cause thrown belts like that.

Appears that’s the harmonic balancer is not bent.

I was crossing fingers that the reason the first belt threw was just because it was ancient and that’s why it lost a rib. I didn’t look too closely because I was in a fairly sketchy spot with some questionable people around while replacing the belt.

After getting it home today I think I’ve found the real culprit. One of the ridges on the plastic tensioner pulley is razor sharp, not sure how that happened but would definitely slice a belt. The bearing also is loose on it. Additionally the metal idler pulley is pretty grooved but the bearing is fine. Going to snag those pulleys from the junkyard tomorrow to experiment and see what we have.

The accessory drive on this is mixed and matched off 3 different engines so it’s hard to tell what was in use or not.

By an unfortunate turn, the junkyard today did not have a single LS accessory drive. However my buddy Paul is bringing me my spare tensioner tomorrow, and I’m going to temporarily borrow the idler off my other buddies 4.8 and if that fixes the issue I’ll order new parts.
The sharp tensioner pulley:

Changing fluids in the 80 today and saw that I crushed the ring surround on the front differential drain plug. Got everything done except the front diff fluid. Does anyone have any tips on getting this plug out since the rock I hit deformed the protection ring into the drain plug?
I tried banging on the inside of the crushed side with a brass tap and hammer, tried prying with a screwdriver, tried to take the 24mm socket and bang it onto the plug. All to no avail.
