If you are planning on a lot of brake and or fuel lines take a look at this tool. I got mine from Eastwood several years ago and it still serves me well. It comes with a 45 degree turret and dies and I added a 37 degree turret and dies to do AN fittings. It can handle single flare, double flare and bubble flares. Make flaring quick and easy.

I have this same one and echo your praise.

I changed out the plug wires in my 60. The old ones were OEM and looked to be in ok shape. “1986” is printed on some of the old wires and “1987” printed on others (it’s an 87 model 60). Is this the year the wires were made? If so, is it really possible that the wires are original issue after 33 years and 260k miles? Pretty amazing if so.

Unless you got some NOS on those wires, that is crazy!

Hadn’t thought about that. It would make sense, since the wires looked like they were in good shape (still pliable, no visible cracks). It’ll remain a mystery. New OEM wires replaced the old ones. Should be good for another 30 years.

Bike wrenching. Need ideas. My very smart self rode through water that submerged the bottom pivot. Two months later tons of creaking so I go to replace the bolt and bearings and the bearing have rusted into place. So I pry and the bearing breaks apart and tiny bb bearing go everywhere. Now the outer metal band of the bearing has rusted into place and will not move. Soaking with pb blaster and still nothing. Any ideas. Are there any kind of cutting chisels that could cut this piece of metal? Soaking again now. Two bands have done this and soaking both. WIll never do that again. ugh. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Are you talking about the bottom bracket, or the rear suspension bottom joint?

Carbide burr on a die grinder to thin out the bearing.

If it is the bottom bracket, Park makes a tool:

I would think the pivot bearings are cartridge style??

Suspension bottom pivot. Cartridge exploded and bb’s went everywhere. Little metal ring rusted in place. 🤣

Can i use a drill and do something similar? Lightly drill into casing.

Bearing races are very hard. You will not be able to drill it with a regular drill bit.
Thank you. I will try with what I have. Nice and easy.

Get Kroil/Aero-Kroil (Amazon sells it). PB is as effective as water compared to Kroil. If you're able to apply heat + penetrant, do so - even a heat gun or hair dryer should allow the penetrant to, um, penetrate.

So my 3yr old bulk mix is no good. Dang. Never heard that last part.

I have a the bb press fit removal tool but sounds like it may not work for bottom pivot

Sounds like these were sealed bearings then, not bearing and race separately?
have any pics? You sound kinda fooked;)

SLUT got a new master cylinder last night

the 80 got a brake bleed and new diff fluids. 330k and rolling on (albeit slowly these days)
