Not fun trail repair ,twisted off the front output shaft pulling out a stuck truck in reverse axle wrap binding u-joint and just twisted it off. Got lucky made it home in two wheel drive and was able to zap strap a latex glove to the front nose cone to keep some gear oil inside the case.

Pretty easy with a 40 once you lift it. The 40 and 60 u joints only have 24~27 degrees of articulation. More often you'll break the pinion
in the diff. We used to grind and relieve high spots in the u-joints to pick up a few degrees here and there. Now its easier to just run the
joint found on the front of the 80 series on the front of your 40 and 60. That u-joint will flex 45 degrees without binding. Another plus is that
you can buy that ujoint in a kit with an 8" slip yoke vs the 2 3/4" slip found on the stock 40 or the 3 1/4 found on the 60. Its a Joint Fuji part and your favorite MUD vendors do sell it.
Personally, back in the 80s and 90s, I twisted a couple pinions before this option came to be.

What engine/hp involved?
Mild 350 chev sm465. 38.5 swampers 4:11 and a locker bull low and low range what’s that like 50-60 to one Crawl. I pulled pretty hard heard a clack clack pop. Snapped it off.

Oh nice I could use that I need the longer slip joint also as I have shackle reversal. Hmm. Will have to look into it. Cheers. I have twisted a rear pinion off and front pinion off when my front driveshaft separated and flung around under the rig like a propeller until it jammed up in the leaf spring and twisted the front pinion off. Oops.

I used to buy the assemblies direct but now I just call, Georg, Kurt, FJparts or whoever your favorite vendor is. joint fuji part

Back to tsx swamper, no more Toyo ?
Haha good eye I was wondering if anybody would notice. I was reminiscing looking at old pics and decided to post some old ones. Still have the swampers but they are getting old. Old tires old roll cage no roof on and it’s horrible weather here in Canada right now a few other giveaways ,, I new someone would call me out. Haha. Cheers.

I still do need to upgrade my front shaft and I do have the fine spine front output shaft and nose cone and shaft waiting to go into an Orion. But who knows when? they have been in my garage for 10-15 years just laying there ,,

Would your winch have pulled the stuck truck out?

Would your winch have pulled the stuck truck out?
Oh ya most likely. If it was functional , it’s just sitting there looking pretty. I smoked the original solenoids on it and have never fixed it. I do have an Albright solenoid for it. Just have to refurb the whole winch now , I Hope to get all my little things fixed up on it this coming year.

This is where the winch failed not sure if it got water in it or what ,broken burf had to winch myself out of the lake to pull the broken bits out of the knuckle so I could drive home the wheel jammed up and wouldn’t roll. ,,

Good thing you weren’t on a trail when that happened… 2wd doesn’t cut it … when I snapped my rear pinion I had to leave my rig on the trail for 4 hours to retrieve a spare diff … I had visions of missing parts when I ever get back … luckily it was untouched

Broken parts are a huge bummer… broken parts on your DD sucks

Glad you got your rig home
