OK so now for you guys on in the maybe corner; Kevin & e9999 (Sorry don't recall your name and couldn't find you on the Official SoCal80 Check in thread) do you guys know if you are in yet?

Dan I am assuming your birff job was successful and that you are in

Who all is meeting at Costco at 6:00? I will send all of you my cell # so you can call me if you are running late and you can catch us on the hwy or at the final meeting spot.

so sorry, can't fully commit yet, family along so things up in the air still.
Hoping to make it, maybe even camp the night before or after.
Don't wait for me, though.
I'll try and catch up at the final meeting spot. Still 8am at 78 and BS Rd?
How much gas you think we'd need for the trails you have in mind?

Eric

added: 6 at Costco is a possibility too...

As much as I'd love to join you guys, my daughter is flying down from school for the turkey break.

As of today I will have a little over 100 miles on the birf job and everything looks good (knock on wood) so I am in.

See you all at Costco @ 6:00

Dang, this is turning out to be the Mother of all runs as far as attendance. Hopefully they trails I mapped out don't suck! Well we always have Truckhaven to play in if they do.

As for gas Eric, I have a stock single tank with no reserves but we should be fine, it is only roughly a 45 mile loop according to Google Earth that I mapped out. I expect to gas up in Borrego Springs prior to heading home.

45 miles in sand, that's probably only 5 or 6 gals and it's only 95 miles or so from SD to BS, so indeed, no need to fuel up before starting on dirt, coming full from SD.
Couple of cans and no need to fuel up before coming back, either.
Then again, dinner with the gang in BS sounds fun... :)

If I may suggest: 146.46 MHz on 2m. It's the simplex freq which has been used on a number of events, notably by the Norcal crowd and during the last SnT...

Always bring more fuel than you need when traveling into a desert region like Anza. You never know if you have to take a different route do to a washed out road, emergency or if someone has to limp out broke down.

We will be East of the Salton sea Thursday, Friday. Southeast near Mexico on Saturday and coming home up the West side of the Salton Sea Sunday. I will be monitoring national simplex 146.520 and CB channel 21.

Rig is back from the shop, leak is fixed and I have new pads on the front, so I am good to go. Also Braden, Nick and I will be camping over night Saturday night. I have a group of friends who will be camping out on Poleline Road. Should be a good time, they always bring lots of toys, fireworks and firewood. We also plan on doing a night run over to Truckhaven Hills (not very far away from where we will be camping). If any of you would like to join us please do. Should be a blast, Truckhaven is awesome at night and the show at the Naches is quite entertaining.

PS is anyone bringing their kids? I am debating on bringing my son Dylan, who is four, thanks.

I got the word that my Mojave Road trip is a go for sure!

I will NOT be attending this run, but thanks for letting me sit in the "Que"

Tons of pics to come from the Mojave Road soon!

ah, just had a look at the map.

I have indeed already done the area you are talking about. I did Buttes Pass Road, Hawk Canyon (nice stop for a rest or lunch), Cut across trail, Five Palms, Una Palma, and Arroyo Salado (but all in the N - S direction).

I didn't actually do the Slot, so don't know about that, although I drove right past it. It is listed as an attraction on the map. Is there really an obstacle there?

The rest of the stuff is very easy, level and sandy, a stock Liberty could do it. I don't recall anything challenging at all, just sand. But pretty of course. I would suggest to go up Calcite Mine Road on the other side of 22 when you end up at the end of Arroyo Salado. Road is a bit steeper with a couple of narrow spots on the cliff. Mine at the top is interesting and good views. There is also a place to go down into the neat canyons on the East of CMR, like the North Palm Wash. You can also keep going E on South Palm Wash towards Truckhaven. Going back to BS, it's nice to take Short Wash, paralleling 22, and stop at Vista del Malpais and Fonts Points, great views there.

(FWIW, for those interested in going back and not yet familiar with the area, one of the best routes in my opinion in Anza is Pinyon Mntn Rd, first checking the pictographs nearby, then the dropoff, doing Sandstone Canyon and even going up to the Diablo dropoff in reverse, then Fish Creek and ending up on 78, less familiar with the former, but the last part in particular Sandstone etc is the nicest area I've seen in AB IMO.)

Not filling up befor hitting the dirt is not a good idea ever. What if's happen and you need fule. Please fill up at the last gas before heading out.

The last gas station is just outside of Ramona and we wouldn't even be under a quarter of a tank at that point. I have been out in Borrego wheeling all day and made it back to the Ramona gas station on the way home before. Honestly it's no big deal, especially with all of the rigs we have. A siphon wouldn't be a bad idea tho. And the guys from LA are going to fill-up before hitting the trail since they have a longer haul.

Is it alright if my dog and I tag along in my 60? It would be my first trip to the area, but not my first wheeling experience.
