You just give it a light sand before paint?

Yes. Treat it like top coating over cured paint. Red scotch brite works if painting a non metallic, grey scotch brite if a metallic (so the metallic doesn't lay in the scratches and look funny). Wipe with wax/silicone remover to get rid of fingerprints and such. Air chuck and tack rag then paint.

Sorry to barge in, I do powder coating too and wanted to help.

Roma, your work rocks.

In case you didn't figure it out since January!

So Tucker, you showed me your awesome passenger's side bed setup at SAS 2. Is that in this thread? I have been jumping around reading it but haven't seen it. Maybe I should just suck it up and read end to end. I would like to build something similar for Olive.
Thanks for the inspiration guys!

I just realized this thread hasn't been updated in quiet a while. Tucker and I as well as Michael (blue 45) drove our 40s back out to Colorado for solid axle summit and did a bunch of trails around Ouray. Tucker also drove it out to the Outer Banks for some camping sometime in the fall. The 40s proven to be very reliable and is driven regularly.

Oh almost forgot sometime after the Colorado trip in August I talked Tucker into getting some 16s from city racer and went back with a heavier duty 10ply 255-85-r16 mud terrain. These wheels are awesome and the 255s are actually an inch narrower than the 10.50s so they look even better. I'll have to get some of these for my 40 at some point.

The front axle will get an extended breather so, i got this factory barb that we will add some hose to once the front end goes back together.

What barbs are these? I think I've read of a nissan part that is the right thread. Is that what you used?

Also, sorry if I missed it, but what is the suspension setup? OME kit with MAF shackles?

Not to hi jack the thread but, do you guys recommend using a primer between the powder coat and the paint? Reason I’m asking is because I need to paint some of my own powder coated parts.

Awesome Thread!

Awesome Thread!

The parts were primed after powder coat primarily i believe for blocking and skimming of filler.

You should treat your powder coat much like you would an epoxy primer that has been on a part for a while. You would need to scotch brite it thoroughly (red pad) before painting to give it a surface for a mechanical bond. Priming wont hurt but just adds a step. You could use your powder as a surfacer and sand out imperfections if you have them with say 150 grit then do epoxy primer then paint.

Oh and Tucker got a great deal on a new James Baroud hard shell roof top tent so just waiting on @dogfishlake :) for a sweet 40 rack.

Sooo close! My intent was to bring one to him on my trip through last week but couldn't pull it off. Tucker gets rack #1 when ready.

I love the look of 255's. I didn't think BFG made the 255 16's though (?).
