Very happy with my results
Sanded down the middle section and painted it 202 Toyota Black like the truck. Looks so much better than peeling silver. Perhaps someday I will paint the whole trim, but I need Black ARB bumpers first.

Looks great! I started with just the center section, but I had a few pieces of trim where the surface was peeling all the way to the edge. I decided a day later to spay the whole thing.
Great looking rig, fish. Really great looking.
I know 2000 LX 470 was talking about Fish's rig, not mine.
A Few Tips for those DIY'ers:
-I used 320 grit paper. It takes longer, but anything more course starts to cut the plastic. I took off the darker gray and got to a silver level. When sanding more, it starts to turn darker gray again.
-Remember, 3 lite coats of paint are better than one heavy one - just a reminder.
-The can states 5-10 min between coats, the original label has 10-15. Guess we need to check the temp when spraying to determine what "flash dry" really means. No matter how tempted, no finger tests.
-I used up the entire can, 3 coats on each side and only the middle of the trim. If you are going to do the whole trim, better get at least 3 cans.
-IMHO this stuff matches well and has a very nice spray. Again, I am pleased for $28 total.

Gonna spray my trim pieces in the next couple weeks along with the awful fender flares that have rubbed down to the primer underneath. 
White with silver running boards, fender flares, bumper covers and side molding is a bit much for me! Has anyone used the factory color matched spray cans that Napa can mix up for you? Thinking I will go this route....? Probably would be in the $500 range to get everything done at a body shop since it is so many pieces. Did anybody clear coat their trim pieces after spraying? My truck is natural white so it should be a little more forgiving than a metallic.

I was told by a few body shops that the middle part of the trim can not be painted as it is some type of metallic metal or is metal. I could not understand what any of them were talking about. They said it would start to flake.
So, I have an idea. I may get a sign shop who does a lot of exterior vinyl graphics and vehicle wraps to put a piece of vinyl in the middle and have the rest of the trim repainted.

Other places that sell or specialize in automotive paints can also put your color choice in spray cans. Here is a place you can order direct from too: Touch Up Paint, Car Touch Up Paint, Auto Touch Up Paint | Brandsport.com
I've seen all white 100's and they look good. I've also seen white with black trim and bumpers on white look goods too with the right accessories. An aged bronze color might work because its in between light black with hints of goldish color in the paint (kinda like the goldish factory trim). I've experimented with a lot of spray paints and I like the wrinkle finish, textured and metallic blends because they cover imperfections and usually have several colors they can blend together. I'll be painting my trim soon because it looks like crap in different areas and some places are scratched, etc. Probably need to go back and re-read this thread...

Thanks JGray, the book was super fun to do and I sold a bunch of them. Actually headed to Baja in about an hour to shoot for a few days, good South swell lining up right now.

Sorry for reviving this old thread. But I'm going to attempt to paint my middle trim black in the next few days. Any additional feedback on any of the paint choices from any of you who did this? Any thing you would do differently?
My $.02 if I were to do it...
Really good surface prep to remove all dirt and wax and then a true automotive trim paint that contains a flex additive. SEM etching primer and then either Bumper Coat or Trim Black.
Any autobody supply that does walk-up sales will have SEM products.
I think it's always better to dig up a good, old thread than start a new one. Having said that, someone else recently posted some information about spraying their trim, but I believe it was in a thread on another subject. If I find it I'll post a link here.

Looks great! Is the color you used very close to the color of the OEM bumper? I have River Rock Mica and I need to do the trim...yours looks like it may be a good match
