Tapage, I believe yours is their old version, the new caliper looks much larger, they might have learned... You can see both options on their website.
They might give you a good deal on the new version since you already got the old one.

The X-brake is a lot more expensive...

I might go with the new TSM on the Volvo 6X6

I have corresponded with a couple of guys who used the TSM setup...I don't know what version they have but I was interested in the same issue (does it work right). Both related that it did. Not sure what it takes to make it work right or if the instructions are good or not.

I'd rather see a honest evaluation. Unfortunately, some people will tell you it's the greatest thing next to sliced bread just because they bought it.

It's like Diesel owners compulsive need to lie about mileage..

It'd be a great option if it works.. I have one of the mini disk DL setups for my 40. Never got around to install it tho.

A p-brake on the t/c makes a lot of sense. It uses the R&P ratio to advantage. The only thing is that they rely on both tires having equal traction. As soon as one doesn't the placing-holding ability is compromised. Not to say that as soon as there's a slight difference in traction that the truck will slide, it take a lot more than that.
Of course, with any sort of automagic locker this ain't an issue.

Hey! I got 19.9 out of my CTD going to the Mint 400 last year. Of course I drove it like a grandpa, it was on stock size tires, I didn't exceed 1750 rpm, and it didn't have the camper yet.

I too was concerned about the transfer case parking brake. I posted up a thread on the same subject, and a couple of guys emailed or PM'ed me their experience, while they were positive I can't say first hand if the TSM product is good or not. IF you hunt back through some of the threads (old) you will come across one or two that talk about the TSM brake, and I recall emailing one of the guys who installed one on his truck.

IF you run 4wheel disk brakes your options for parking brakes get pretty slim. I was thinking about going to 4wheel disk at one time but never got off my @$$ to execute that and during that period I was looking at the TSM setup as one option.

I'm not sure if that is the ebrake that is being installed as I type, but it sure looks like the one Marshall sourced to do my conversion. If it is I will be able to post up in a few days how it's working. :)

I finally decided that the beast needed more braking and Trollhole is doing the conversion for me. I can't get the time to even change the spark plugs anymore. Hopefully it will be done sometime this week or early next week.

I would love to see real world test .. guy in the 70 series show he's t-case parking on duty ( this one http://www.x-eng.co.uk/X-BrakeToyota70.asp ) and it seems to actually work ..

I put the XBrake on my LR 110. I worked quite well. It would hold that similar weight truck on as steep a slope as my well-adjusted FJ60 drum parking brakes. It's very simple, minimal moving parts, no pivots to rust, no drum to pack with mud, no brake fluid to leak and soak the pads or cause the caliper to not clamp.

The price is a bit more than the TSM, but having seen the XBrake caliper I think it's better quality.

Your prob right, paid those slimeballs 6k and only got back 1500. Thanks Obama, but no requirement to run fast, that's what the old lady is for!

lol well i paid 20k in if it makes you feel any better!! there is no way in hell my old is getting out to chuck a cinder block around! she is the one who told me to get one. she has a heck of a time hooking the boat up and i refuse to get out on a steep ramp and just leave it in gear!!

I'm about 90% done. Just have to figure out the cable.

That is the bigger and improved version right?
Tapage, does it look bigger than yours?

Damn Marshall that thing is pretty sexy looking!!! Definitely have to key us in on the difficulty of install and how it performs.

Well it came already coated in red powder coat. Plus the tcase was already done by smoking gun powder aka ACC.

Anyway the directions were a little vague. One pic would say a thousand words. Other than that its really built well. I think I can make the original parking brake cable work. Or at least give it a try.

My biggest mistake was thinking the disk went between the flange and the DS. It doesn't.

Right way.

Wrong way

The caliper is well built.

awesome

Bling and function gotta love it, and it even matches the color on that ugly 60.:)

I never tried the t'case version .. I have the ebrake caliper ( eldorado ) version that never works for me .. and read here some opinions about the t-case ( maybe the old one ) version I just wanna see if someone have first hand experience with it working as it should be ..

although this one looks pretty good ..

My biggest mistake was thinking the disk went between the flange and the DS. It doesn't. .

so the disc goes in from behind the flange .. ( so you must remove it to install disc ) ..

Please let us now how it performs when done ..

I think i messed up

I just got done installing this brake. and i installed it in the way what you called wrong. I am curious why it is the wrong way? I used the washers in the kit for spacers on the top bolts. It works for me, but i seem to manage to get a square peg in a round hole all the time, if you know what i mean.

I agree with the directions... not best.

I did get the e-brake cable to work. just reused some of the springs and shorter it down to the first metal piece on the cable that is down line from the floorboard hole. It should be around 30".

E brake cable set up. This is how I set up my transfer brake. It works so far but I might be lucky. Actually I probably am lucky.
