Thanks for posting that up Chuch Wagon that looks like a clean modification and it works too!

Tapage as soon as I can get the rig back from trollhole, I'll post up some photo's if it works good. If not I don;t think a photo of my ugly rig rolling down the hill would be on my mind at the time. See ya!:D

Got her back from the shop and gave it a try, it holds but as it was night and I was on a deadline photo's to follow in a week or so. But it felt real strong I think it will hold on a 15 to 20 grade but only chains should be trusted above that inclination. See Ya!

The cable for the parking brake. I had this custom made. They did create a part number for it. You can call them up and order the cable for $35 plus shipping. Was about 50 to get it to me. I ended up buying two just in case someone needed one quick. I'll have to dig up the paperwork for the number

CONTROL CABLES (562) 949-0455

You will have to use a file to slighty modify the ebrake handle mechanism to get the cable in but it took all of 5 min to do. I also ended up making a heat shield for the cable as well. Docs exhaust runs right under it. And in keeping with the theme of his cruiser I add a little bling to it.

Hey Trollhole, this month issue of 4WD Toyota Owner Magazine had an article on the Nitro Gear diff cover. Wondering if your thoughts were the same as theirs.

Send me a link. I haven't seen it.

IndianDoc, Have you had a chance to really test it out yet. I need to get something for my FJ40 with a splitcase and hoping this does the trick.

Works great holds well, but as to a photo it is really flat here (lowcountry South Carolina) and I have not had a good hill to test it on. Best grade I have around here is 12 to 15% so nothing that really tests the parking break. But as soon as I can find a good grade for a photo opportunity I will post a pic that shows it in action. Went down to a local state park and there is a nice grade but no way to take a photo except from behind or in front and that did not really show much. I haven't forgot just not had a good place to shoot a photo.

did you try using it from a slow roll .. say something like 15 or 20 mph .. ?

Yes and it is no more effective than the drum parking brake at that ,actually just about the same neither did a good job from 10 plus mph in stopping the beast. And that is a lifted tuck on 35's A stock truck would respond differently and stop with the drum e brake and I think it would with this one as well , but on a lifted truck with 800 to 1000 lbs of add on weight and 35's it will eventulally stop the truck the rolling truck but no where near as fast as a stocker. I don't think it can be expected to be an emergency break, but it is an effective parking break on limited slopes. In our off road world it would not be effictive in holding on a steep hill climb or descent. But tell the truth I know you and I both have been on slopes so steep that even locked in gear the truck still slides down the hill with all four wheel sliding in the mud. :)

I just got done readjusting my transfer case brake and it performs much better now after being used for a little bit. I did the slow roll test yesterday from about 20mph. It slowed the truck but agree it would need a lot more distance to be a true emergency brake. Parking brake it works well. I had it on about a 15 degree hill yesterday and it held just fine. It's a small rotor with two small disk pads. Can't compare to the rear brakes as used as emergency brake. But for my solution works perfect with rear disk brakes and the issues I had trying to get the ebrake to work on them.

that's another story .. but there are a couple of situations that I would like to have a e-brake that hold the truck fairly decent, I mean 25 degrees to much to ask ..?

At this point I'm not sure if my 40" would help or not ..

exactly my case ( I'm pretty sure we are not the only ones ) ..

I know and with 40" it would be worse, bigger lever arm to act aganst the drive train. But I still will get a photo of the beast on the steepest hill I can find where it holds and post up for you. Keep safe down south in the jungle. :p

Bringing back on Old Thread

Been doing some research on rear disc conversions and e-brakes. Any updates on this old thread? Would love to see some pictures of this brake in action and updates on how well its held up

I installed the MB-3 caliper based 60 series e-brake on my split case.
Putting it in the down position means a really low bracket. I was worried about it hitting things so I modified the system. Overall I'm impressed with the items from TSM.

As supplied by TSM, you can see how low things were.
