It was like a 5 year old waiting for Christmas last night. All I thought about was working on my front axle. So, went to up to Santa Lee's and got the front axle built out to the spindles. Thanks a million Lee, really appreciate it my friend
So I took the transmission off the motor today to put my new clutch in. When I went to turn the motor over using the big nut on the crank, it wouldn't turn. I was using a 3/4" ratchet with a long handle. Still wouldn't turn. Then I decided to use about a four foot long breaker bar. It finally broke loose and turned by hand using the 3/4" ratchet. The motor doesn't have any oil in it yet. Did I do any harm breaking the motor free? Someone please let me know.
If it is metal on metal and no oil (also not the packaging oil) then I dont like it but is is a lot of friction binding resistance when added up.
So it was never tested and after assembly no oil added but stored?
I would add oil and forget it, if you manage the last tell me how
Should be no problem if it was just sticky rings... That's the only thing it should have been...
You just went through the engine, no? I didn't look back yet...
Didn't go completely thru the motor. Just did a master seal kit. The oil was drained but no new oil was added. So all that was left in there was residual oil that didn't all drain out. Head seal, new injectors, timing seal and all the other little seals here and there.
I would have put a bit of Marvel Mystery (ATF) in each cylinder first but I don't think it's a big deal. Fill it with oil and turn it over a few more times and see how it feels.
Having a big shop has always been a dream of mine. Like my father said though, "no matter how big you make it, it's never big enough ". I'm already wanting to add on, lol
Johnny, do you or anyone else for that matter know if the flange on an H55 is a different size bolt pattern than an H42 for the front drive shaft? For some reason, I can't get the front drive shaft to go over the mounting studs on the H55.

Are you using a double Cardan? If so the bolt pattern is a pre 84 or 85 can't remember. You will have to take the flange off of the t case and drill it out to fit.

not sure if it is off the top of my head. I'll have to look at it when I get home this afternoon. The flange on the output of the t-case has studs and the flange on the DS has the bolt holes. Gonna call your dad later on this week.
