Are any dealers shipping coolant? Without any ridiculous charges, shenanigans of course. Serra (Decatur) was my go-to and they won’t ship. Tia.

Given the recent CCN video about how all these rigs are living on borrowed time, I’ve got my fifth head gasket repair like @ryanCA suggests as PM every 5k miles coming up. I don’t want to be without it!
smart man!

I live on the edge. I do 10 k gasket changes with my 10k oil changes

Seriously though. I am hoping to get coolant shipped. If you’re worried about an onslaught of orders, a DM would be appreciated. I’ll keep it under my hat. Again - tia

You’re in NC so there can’t be a Southeast Toyota (SET) too far from you; SET dealers are those who participate in these sales. Order online and pickup. I use Modern in Winston.

Just go to Advanced Auto Parts and get Pentosin Pentafrost A4. I'm pretty sure they are the OEM supplier anyway. (edit: checked to confirm. Cannot confirm) It's a HOAT Phosphated coolant, which meets all the required specs for coolant in the Toyota manual.

Thanks for this. And the update too.

Coolant is one thing that Toyota is (likely) protecting like mothers milk. I say some stuff tongue in cheek, but coolant is one fluid I’ll stick with OEM on with my LC.

That's the thing though. I would bet a crapload of money that they don't manufacturer it. Just like all their other fluids. So they can't "protect" it. In Toyota manuals they actually say what to use in its place.

They definitely don’t. I’m a BIG bitog fan. With that said, I don’t know that there’s ever been a definitive “use this vs that” type data point for their coolant. Comparatively to their motor oil being widely known to be Mobil 1.

Not only that, even if Toyota doesn’t produce coolant they do move enough volume that they can specify custom blends if they desire.

It being harder to find is easily addressed by just having a couple gallons sitting in storage. When a vendor has a sale stock up.

Thanks for this data point.

I’ll stick with sllc unless I can’t get it/emergent situation/etc. I have a few gallons of amsoil low toxicity coolant (long story on why I want low toxicity stuff), but sllc is all I want in my LC. The amsoil coolant is marketed as being compatable with all coolants. But I’m good with the sllc stuff.

Also, better to use the recent stock coolant. I have a 1-2 year old gallon bottle of OEM SLLC, and it seems to have some white particles in it. The same white stuff I saw inside the radiator hoses (may be glycol or something, I dont know.).

I'm pretty confident that Toyota is using Aisin coolant. The Aisin part number is ACT-002. The bottles are the exact same, cap is the same and the coolant color is the exact same.

I stumbled upon the aisin online parts catalog. Could probably save a decent bit by using the Aisin part in the Aisin box rather than the Aisin part in a toyota box. Their online parts catalog has things like brake pads, rotors, water pump, fan pulley bracket, coolant, ATF, transfer case actuators.... among other things.

Well, placed a large order with Serra yesterday afternoon. We will see how long it takes. No heavy parts in this one, so shouldn't be any danger of shipping damage. There were about 20 line items, hopefully that doesn't slow it down too much. Went with 8x OEM spark plugs and ignition coils as the big ticket item on this order. Around $600 for all 8. Can get Denso parts from Rock Auto for a little cheaper (~$80), but at least now I don't have to wonder whether they are the same. Also got all new foam for under the intake manifold. Have it off right now so as good a time as any to replace. Had to replace my intake tube resonator as well, so ordered the single resonator Tundra part for about 1/3rd the cost.

I've seen other forums mention RA falling in quality of customer service and after purchase issue support. Broken brake pads, etc from reputable (akebono) brands. I used to be a big RA fan.

I've never used them, so I guess double bonus ordering them from Toyota.

I ordered a part from them on the 15th, and they shipped two days later on the 17th. They've always been quite responsive when I've ordered from them, apart from the one time a couple years back when they got caught completely off guard from nearly all Toyota forums pointing to them during a sale and they got overloaded (but even then they handled it like a champ).

Yeah, my order during that blowout took 2-3 months i think. Luckily I wasn't "waiting" for anything. My last order was through Fred Anderson (Asheville). It went quickly but wasn't packed that great. I think I also ordered a smaller one from Serra during that sale and it came quickly. This is the first time I'm actually waiting for something, so I hope it the trend of quick shipping continues.
