I finally got her to fire! Fooled with her for a minute while my neighbor was using my welder on his exhaust and she fired up. Now to fine tune a bit and build an exhaust. then I will be testing suspension.
On another note. Bought another project. A 1985 VW vanagon westy! Of course it needs some work thats why I got it for cheap. So plans for it are to swap in a 2.2 liter turbo subaru engine:p:beer:

not ready for the road yet. but good enough to test suspension:) 2nd pic is my friend aleks. he was in barn doing some work on his brothers 40. he is the same guy that owns the big blue 60 that i have posted pics of before.

I should have some pictures to put up tomorrow. But I have made some progress. Drove it around town a bit. And commuted the 2 minutes to work several times. So the progress is that the interior is padded and carpeted. Obviously that would be the floor. Also got an exhaust system made but I didn't leave enough clearance between the front driveshaft and passenger side downpipe. So need a redo on just that elbow.
planning on taking it to cruiser outfitters BBQ and show off in the park in salt lake this Friday. So hopefully highway manners are good since all the changes.....

Have been doing wrap up fine tuning for a couple weeks when I have time. I was especially excited to get her out to rub elbows with some other cruisers at kurts get together down in salt lake. I had the family loaded up in the big noisy beast wifey, 8 yr old boy and 4 month old boy. Got 25 miles down the road halfway to salt lake and got a harsh vibration and harsh wince inducing noise. Pulled over and tried to shake drive shafts couldn't find the source. Tried to pull forward to try and pinpoint issue and the rear third puked it's driveshaft flange and then the shaft separated and fell to the road along with the pinion bearing. Pig didn't get to rub elbows. Instead it got a trailer ride. Ring and pinion wasted and it blew a hole out the bottom of the third.

Ouch that sucks!

That sucks Jake! And on the way to the party. Were you coming down Parleys? could have been alot worse, glad no one was hurt.Im not sure where I would go to buy my old rusty parts anymore.and I do need 2 wheels after all.Cheers

Yup it totally sucked! But all better now. I was able to fix it Monday. Wifey has a 4runner that we are getting ready to sell so have to fix the things that don't work just in time to sell it. So I pulled broken third because I was anxious to see how bad it was. After that I figured I better get on the 4runner so I swapped out tailgates with the parts 4runner. So now I have a working rear window. Those electric rear windows on any vehicle suck by the way. After I was successful with that I put in a bueno third and reinstalled the Aussie and drove pigtown home. I will have to admit I was careful on the gas and cautious because it just felt like my bad luck I would inexplicably lose another rear end because I'm not meant to drive the pig. So far so good. From my short highway test that ended badly I noticed that I need to redo my oil pan gasket. Hopefully that will happen soon. Next on the have to have done yesterday list is swapping a head gasket on the Westy so we can drive it to Montana for granny's birthday party next week. Tough old Indian lady is turning 99!

I am glad that third didn't blow while you were at highway speed!

I completely agree! I was super duper lucky. No other damage. Driveshaft was fine and the locker was intact. Swapped the third and all better.

It gave going up the on ramp at jeremy ranch, so right before parleys. When you coming to get those wheels? I tried to get you to take them last time you were up! You should have just listened to me! But whatevers clever punk. Anything else on the want list?
Jake

I forget, do you have an anti-wrap bar on the rear axle? If not, this may have greatly contributed to your busted pinion...

not quite yet. I have johnny joints to make one with but haven't gotten to it. I would totally agree with except the pinion didn't break. the pinion nut backed off and let the drive flange come off the pinion which led to carnage. I really need to get that anti wrap bar done and some rock rails before I can do any decent wheelin'. I'm in shop today but doing a head gasket on a vw vanagon.

nope. In fact I'm super duper pissed off. Upon reassembly my inaccurate torque wrench didn't say when to stop and a head bolt snapped! Way bummed and angry at the same time. Now I have to order a new set and re-reassemble on Friday.

I'm leaning towards torque wrench failure. It clicked on the first bolt but not at all on a few and my Dumbass kept turning til it clicked and the stud snapped before the wrench clicked. Sometimes I'm not so smart. I'd had a few captain bastards oatmeal stouts and smoked some whiskey flavored pipe tobacco in my gandalf sized pipe and wasn't paying as much attention as I should have.......

Been driving it around a bit. I take it to work and around town. Wifey drove it 25 miles up the highway to park city to meet up with her buddies. So far I need to redo the oil pan gasket and add an electric fan on the radiator and some electrical with turn signals and marker lights. It's doing pretty good though.
I drive it to my second job which is an auto parts store. So it's get quite a few looks from other gear heads. But some people have no idea what it is. I was thinking I would start telling people it's a fiat.....
