Hi,

Gull Wing doors currently available for the 80 series cruiser from EmuWing.com.au in auto safety glass and Aluminium, no modifications are required on the vehicle.
100 Series coming soon...

Hey Kevin, Petr (from Eugene) here. We met a couple of times with my LX at your place.

Hey, I just acquired a second LX so I am willing to let you have one of them for a couple of months to do all the templating and test fitting you want to do. I will be tearing out the interior on my original one, so that would probably be the perfect time.

Let me know what your timeframe is and let's make this happen!

Bumpin' this thread because EmuWing appears to have these available now...

AU$619/side is currently about US$450 for the aluminum version. Safety glass version is not yet available.

Emu Wings responded:

"Thanks for your interest in our product. In answer to your question - Yes, we absolutely could.

Ten units, so five pairs of wings we would give you a 10% discount on the total cost excluding shipping. However on ten pairs, or twenty units we would take that to 15% excluding the shipping costs. The shipping costs would be reduced somewhat by sending to the same location although we would be happy to get some costs together for direct delivery to each customer."

So if you all want I can set up a group buy.

I would love to know eta on the glass version- but would jump on a single right of the aluminum version if it's a ways out.

I asked Emu Wing about this. Here is their response:

"Being a small fish in a big ocean our suppliers don't always fulfil our orders in a timely fashion, last time I spoke to my glass supplier I was told next week (W/E 4th of March). I am expecting it sooner rather than later but realistically your guess is as good as mine. I actually placed the order in December so I do expect it reasonably soon."

This seems to me like it would work out well with a group buy, especially for those that can be flexible on delivery times.

My DS vent window appears to have an antenna integrated into the glass, anybody know the details on this? Is it for AM radio? I searched here and the web and can't find any info.

Also, is there a market for the rear glass, motor, etc that will help offset the cost of this mod? I couldn't find any listings on ebay or elsewhere for rear vent glass (and I assume OEM is near impossible to source at this point).

That is an antenna for FM signal. The OEM head unit compares signal strength between that antenna and the forward mounted mast antenna and then chooses one signal for optimum performance.

I am currently using only the glass antenna in my LX because of a missing power antenna. I will shortly be installing the Tundra fixed antenna in the front.

Thanks @ihadmail, that's good to know. I would think the mast antenna would nearly always win in signal strength, so I guess there's not really a concern with loosing the rear window antenna.

I have an integrated antenna in the passenger side vent window, but it is NOT for AM/FM signals. I traced the wire back to a vehicle locator module installed next to the factory amp.

It's set up very similar to a 4th gen 4Runner with dual antennas. It's called a diversity antenna, and that rear glass is most definitely the second antenna. If you pull the head unit there are two antenna inputs, a large and a small. The larger is the forward telescoping antenna. The box that the rear wire goes into may be a power amplifier for the rear antenna's signal just like that used in the 4Runner. I would have to dig though the wiring schematics to verify that though.

If I have time tomorrow at work I will dig through the diagrams and post up the relevant screen shots.

EDIT: In the meantime the info on TLCFAQ confirms this, scroll down to "Other Notes" Stereo Wiring: Land Cruiser / LX 470 (1998-02) /EDIT

The rear glass antenna gets very poor reception on its on, hence my need to install a standard antenna on the front location again when I'm installing my aftermarket stereo.
